The wolf named Ian seemed to sneeze at the statement and Sera laughed, burying her face in the dark fur.

Brant came to sit by Kat’s side, providing warmth and protection from the cold wind. Not only did she feel better and calmer, but the dots also came together in her mind.

“You are Asher Stonelake’s mate, the man who runs Sanctuary on the other part of town where Brant works, right? I remember seeing you in town with a big, blond man. And you came to the bakery too! We saw each other often, but I never got up the courage to talk to you. And as Brant and I were trying to keep our relationship as hidden as possible…”

The dark-haired woman smiled. “That sums it up and I understand. Also, I must admit that you bake the most sinful cakes I’ve ever eaten. I’m so happy to be part shifter with a body that burns calories fast, otherwise I’d be as big as a house!”

A smile formed on Kat’s mouth. “You’re a shifter?”

“Part weredragon, part witch. It’s a long story. Why don’t we go back inside, and we’ll try to make sense of everything?”

The woman called Sera took a few steps in her direction and looked up at the sky. The clouds started to mask the moon and a few snowflakes were coming down. “It’s early Christmas morning. Don’t you feel it?”

Kat’s heartbeat slowed, her hand deep in Brant’s fur. The lynx rubbed his head against her and she giggled.I forgot they were your friends. I’m so sorry.

You are a fierce woman. I’m so grateful to have you as my mate.

Valeria shivered. “I love snow, but the wind is freezing and...”

A gunshot wheezed through the trees and Kat heard a wolf howl from a distance.

Kat! Take cover, now!
