I kill the lights and grab my headphones. Once my head hits the pillow, I pull up my doomgaze playlist, hit play, and max the volume on my phone.

The flight is smooth, and despite the delay, we land close to the original arrival time. I text Blue once I’m loaded into the car that the jet charter service arranged to be waiting on the tarmac.

After twenty minutes, I shoot him another text.

When I reach the house,I pull up the app Blue downloaded onto my phone that controls the lock to the front door. I wait for Bluetooth to connect and then click the button to unlock.
The lights are still on downstairs, but the house is quiet.

I peel off my shoes and head upstairs.
The bedroom door is open, but it’s dark inside.
I tiptoe inside and slide the light dimmer down to the lowest setting before flipping on the light.
He’s curled on his side, knocked out.
Heavy bass and hazy guitar strings spill out from his headphones.
How the hell can he sleep with music that loud?
You couldn’t tell from how peaceful he looks right now that he has trouble sleeping.
I want to crawl between his legs, but I need to prep first.
