“What braised short ribs and mac ‘n’ cheese?” I ask.

“During bestie date night,” she explains.

“Aww, he’s pouting,” Salem jokes, kneeling in front of the fireplace to get a fire started.

“I don’t pout,” I grumble.

“Salem, how do you like vampires?” she asks.

“I’m dating one, aren’t I?”

“Uh, what?” I snort.

“You hate the sun, you’re always biting me, your baseline is melancholy, your handwriting, the tattoos…Come on.”

Anaïs and I burst out laughing.

“And you’re always watching from the corners like a predator. I saw you at Nick’s house.”

Ugh. He saw me lurking? Cringe.“Okay, but I’m never truly the predator.”

“With us? Yeah, no.” He blows me a kiss.

I shake my head as he turns to Anaïs and asks, “Why do you ask?”

“We had plans to have a Gothic movie-thon.”

“Bet. I’m down. Let me take Sim on a walk real quick, then get started on breakfast.”

“’K. I’m gonna clean up the floor and then shower quick fast. You need anything?” I ask.

Anaïs burrows into the couch. “Throw me the remote?”

I pick it up and pass it to her.

“Hey, Jones,” I call out as he grabs his coat and Sim’s leash.

“Yeah?” He turns to me.

“I love you.”

His dimple appears. “Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

“You heard that, Anaïs?” he asks.

She laughs. “Sure did.”

“Just making sure I’m not imagining it.”

“Fuck you both.”

He snickers. “I love you, too, Blue.”
