I shrug. “You kinda did it already by reminding me to breathe. Adam does the same. You saw me scanning the room and touching random stuff earlier. It’s a technique he taught me.”
“I can do that. We can take this at your pace, but there’s nothing you can’t tell me.”
Does that extend to my doubts? Only one way to find out.
“Uh, are you sure you want to be exclusive? It’s not for everyone.”
“Yes. I’m not a guy who would make a decision like this half-heartedly. I’ve been single for a long time for a reason. I know what I want, and I say what I mean. Despite what they say about me, I’ve always wanted to build a life with someone.” Admittedly, I’m guilty of believing most of what I read about him. “Lately, hooking up with people without a real connection has felt empty. What I felt last night. Fuck. I didn’t realize how starved I was for it. You and I travel more than 40,000 miles a year each season. We won’t see each other nearly as much as we want. I don’t want to waste time,” he continues.
I think back to my teammates in college who dreamt of making it to the league, copping luxury cars, and fucking theirway through Hollywood, just like him. It'll take me a minute to replace that image of him with the man before me.
“This is new for me. I’m yours. There’s no question about it. I just need a minute to accept that we’re doing this,” I say.
“You mean you need time to accept that I’m yours?”
I nod.
“You’ll see. I’d never give you a reason to doubt it.”
I cock an eyebrow. “And casual lovers kissing you at games?”
“Never again. I get the feeling my gorgeous boyfriend wouldn’t like it.”
“Facts,” I fire back.
He grins, buries his face in my neck, and kisses his favorite spot. “Hey”—he levels his gaze with mine—“I thought the victor got the spoils. You didn’t congratulate me.”
He’s right. I forgot everything and saw red after seeing him with Katrina. “My bad. Congratulations, champ. You were phenomenal—forty-one points, six rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal. Sealed the W and earned MVP!”
His face lights up with astonishment, signaling he clearly doesn’t get how deep I’m in for him.
“Thank you,” he says, grinning. “Did you catch my message to you when I scored the forty points you commanded?”
“Your hand over your heart?”
“You saw it!” His soft smile tugs at my chest.
“I did. Damn, that’s sweet.” I lean in to kiss him again. He tucks his knees in like he’s moving to stand. I start to climb off of him when he wraps an arm around my waist, anchoring me in place.
“Wrap your arms around my neck.”
I scoff. “There’s no way.” He’s strong, but there’s no way he can peel us both off of the floor.
He holds me by the waist and in one swift move, I’m tilted backward as he climbs to a kneeling position. I chucklenervously as I hook my arms around his neck. He takes a deep breath, and then I’m tilted back again as he jumps to a squatting position.
“You were saying,” he says as he stands upright.
I groan. “And now I’m hard.”
He walks us toward the bedroom.
“There’s a photo online covering my hickey,” I tell him as he kisses the spot.
“Word? Seeing it on you at the game did it for me. I’ve officially devolved into a caveman.”
Possessive Sid turns me on…all the fucking way. “Come sex me up, captain.”
“No. Not until you’re healed. You said you were sore earlier.”
