A shadow flicks across her face. “He hates to talk about him, but I think it would be good for him.”
I think back to our phone conversation yesterday when I wanted to ask Sid if he’s haunted.
“I don’t mean to pry, but is he no longer friends with that person?”
She opens up her mouth to answer, but her gaze sweeps past my shoulder.
I whip my head around at the sound of the patio door opening. Sid emerges wearing a tank top, shorts, and Christmas socks. His eyes are puffy.
I swallow roughly as the filthy images from the last few hours surface.
Fuck, it wasn’t just in my head.He really is that sexy.
“Morning, baby, I was just getting to know our friend Ty here,” Lily greets him.
Sid smiles at me as he kisses Lily on the cheek. My neck warms as I smile back at him.
“Morning, Ma! Why do I have the feeling you were revealing all of my secrets?”
“Of course not. We were just chatting about the best lasagna Ty has ever had.” She winks at me.
“Good morning,” he greets me as he sits beside me.
“Mornin’.” I clear my throat. “Merry Christmas to you both.”
“Merry Christmas,” they reply in unison.
“Katrina’s sleeping in?” I ask.
“She left. Had to catch an early flight to visit family.”
“No G280 for her?”
“She already had a first-class ticket. I try not to bother the staff on holidays.
Lily peers at me, then Sid, then me again, and smiles to herself. I’d pay to know what she’s thinking.
“Were you headed to the gym?” Sid asks, scanning my sneakers and clothes.
“Yeah.”
“Mind if I join you? I’ll change quickly,” he asks.
I nod, hiding my reluctance.
So much for taking space to get my head right.
“Ma, you need help with anything first?” he asks, standing up.
“No, thank you, dear. Chef Marcus dropped off the food not too long ago. I made brunch. It’s keeping warm on the stove.” She turns to me. “Sid insisted on hiring a chef to prepare Christmas dinner, even though I am perfectly capable of feeding my family."
“You deserve to rest, just like the rest of us. We’ve talked about this,” he replies, his deep voice as gentle as the morning breeze.
“Fine. We’re opening gifts after breakfast once Kieran and Tommy come down.”
“Yes, ma’am,” he agrees.
He turns to me. “Be right back.”
