“Congratulations!” they bid together.

“Thank you. I can’t wait for your big day!”

Adam proposed to Ishan a few months ago, and their big day is less than six months away.

“We went for a fitting with the tailor you recommended, and the funniest thing happened,” Adam says.

“Oh yeah, what’s that?”

“He refused our money. Said he received a sizable advance payment.”

I stick my hands in my pockets. “Strange.”

“The same thing happened with the venue we selected. Oh, and then last week, a wedding planner called. Said she was hired to make our wedding dreams come true. She asked for our availability to stop by and make—what was it—a mood pad or something.”

“A wedding mood board,” Ishan confirms.

I stare at my feet. “Geez. That’s insane.”

“Uh-huh, you wouldn’t know anything about this. Would you?”

“Of course not! How’s the heart?” I ask.

“My heart’s fine. You know that, seeing as you were on speakerphone during my last check-up. So, back to the string of peculiar events. You really don’t know anything about the tailor, the venue, and the wedding planner?”

I shake my head. “Scout’s honor.”

“You were never a scout,” Adam retorts.

“Hmph. True. Of course, if my parent, who is also my favorite uncle and only living relative, gets married to his dreamboat boyfriend”—I wink at Ishan—“I would listen when he tells me that he’s using his retirement savings to pay for the wedding. Especially—”

“Hey, wait one second—” Adam starts.

“Especially, when he refuses to use the savings account I set up for him, or let me buy him a bigger house.”

Adam sighs.

“Look at that—I think I finally met someone more stubborn than you,” Ishan says, grinning.

“Ha!” Adam exclaims. “When it comes to this kid’s stubbornness, we’re all outclassed.” He steps forward and places a kiss on my forehead. “Thank you! No more, kid. Okay?” He rubs the back of my neck. “Parents shouldn’t take from their kids. Rose and Morris would agree.”

“Yes, you’ve made that clear. And I’ve made it clear that you aren’t taking if I’m giving to you of my own free will.”

“Semantics.” He waves it off. “No more.”

I nod. “Welllll, there’s just one more—don’t be mad—we might have bought you both a new truck as a wedding gift. Ishan’s is on its last leg, and you need to get to your appointments when—”

“Kid!”

I wince. “Okay. Okay, I’ll stop. But, like, if a travel planner calls to book your Safari honeymoon, maybe don’t hang up.”

Ishan laughs as Adam throws his hands up in disbelief.

“Pardon my interruption. Just want to wish Ty here congratulations!” Phil says, extending a handshake.

I clasp his hand.

“Start thinking about the wedding of your dreams. Toni’s mood boarding sessions are known to be epic,” I say to Adam and Ishan.
