“I’m not asking you to cut him off. The obvious next step is for you to tell him about us. He thinks you’re single, whichis unfair to him. He could be misreading your kindness as something more.”

“Of course. I hate hiding us.”

“I know you do. I do too.” I rest my head under his chin. “There’s so much I want to tell you, but how’s it been since your press conference? Lily filled me in some.”

He reaches for my hand and kisses my palm.

“A mixed bag. The stuff that bothered me more than the idiots online were the dudes in the league who said ignorant shit that proved my point.”

“I heard about some of that. What did you do?”

“Like, how’d I cope?”

I nod.

“Besides telling them to eat shit and die?” He grins. “I don’t know. It helped that everyone on our team had my back, even Coach and management.”

“I’m glad you had that. I hated not being with you. I wanted to call you just to talk.”

“Me too. If it weren’t for my mom’s updates, there’s no way I could’ve stayed away. Is it true about therapy?”

I nod. “I went back the week of our fight. Some of the sessions leave me wrecked,”—I huff out a breath—“but I’m not quitting this time.”

“Yeah? I regret pushing you.”

“Nah, don’t. I’m grateful for you and Adam. I needed to do this for me, but also for us and my family.”

“We all love you.”

I grin. “I haven’t had the nightmare in a while, and I came out to Kaleb. He knew already somehow and said Malik, Tev, and Idris knew too. Something about the hickeys and how I seem private and go blank whenever they talk about sex.” I guess I could have done a better job of faking it.

“Whoa.” His eyes widen. “What was that like?”

My stomach growls. “Tell you over cereal?”

“I’m glad we’re both home for the next few days,” he says, shuffling to stand.

I peer up at his muscular frame and beautiful face, and a wave of gratitude washes over me.

We have another chance.

Tonight was a turning point for us for the better.

I clasp his extended hand and pull myself up.

We climb back into bed with our bowls of cereal and stay up talking for hours.

CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

Iwake up a man on a mission. It's been a week since Sid and I reconciled. I hit up the group text with Kaleb, Malik, Tevin, and Idris last night, asking if they could swing by my old place for beers and a quick catch-up. Tevin and Idris immediately texted back that they were in. I grab my phone and see that Kaleb and Malik are in too. I'm glad that they're all in. It makes what I am about to do easier.

I smile, taking in Sid’s equally sexy and adorable sleeping face. How the man can ooze sexiness, possess intelligence, courage, and wisdom beyond his years, and be so damn adorable is a mystery. Gently climbing out of bed, I tiptoe to the bathroom to get ready. I moved back into our house the day after we reconciled. I noticed our bedroom looked barely slept in but didn’t think anything of it. Then I passed one of our guest rooms and noticed the bed unmade. I asked Sid if we had a guest, and he sheepishly admitted to being unable to sleep in our bed without me. I dragged him to our bed and made love to him all over again.

Dressed and ready to dip, I’m retrieving my phone from the nightstand when Sid stirs and reaches for me in his sleep. His eyes shoot open when he pats the bed and doesn’t feel me.

“Hey.” I climb in next to him. “I was gonna sneak out to meet up with the guys to tell them about us. I wanted you to sleep in.”

His head drops to the pillow, and he scrubs his hands over his face. “Wow. It’s really happening.”
