I’ve spent hours wondering what it means.

I think it’s a sign.

I need to make peace with the past.

Our future is our family.

I miss your laughter.

I love you.

I’ve never loved you more.

I want to body-slam Arnaz for falling for you.

It’s easy to fall for you.

Do you still want me?

“Hey, are you stealing my arm candy?” Kaleb jokes as he slings his arm around my neck. “We know you like ’em pretty, but this one is taken for the night.”

I flash Kaleb a tight smile.

The worst timing in history.

Sid raises his hands, eyes locked on mine. “I heard he was taken.”

His eyes drop to my dimples when my lips part in a tiny grin.

“How’s the party?” I ask, changing the subject before we give ourselves away.

“Pretty chill up here. I haven’t made rounds,” he says.

He moves to my side so the three of us face the room.

Kaleb angles his head forward toward Sid. “Good game against the Choppers. You and Arnaz put on a show. Wasn’t it something like seventy-four points between the two of you?”

“Thanks, man! Yeah, seventy-six. Their defense was off, more so than usual. It felt like an exhibition game.”

I keep track of Sid’s stats, but I still can’t bring myself to watch his highlights—too much of “The Sid and Arnaz Show.”

Speak of the devil…

“What’s good?” Arnaz daps Kaleb. When he extends his hand to me, I expel a slow cough into my hand and shoot him a tight nod instead. Petty, I know, but it’s the only thing keeping me in pocket right now.

“We were just talking about the buckets you two put up against New York,” Kaleb says.

“Ay! That was hella fun. I can’t take credit. If you ever play with this guy”—he nods to Sid—“you can’t help but get after it.”

Oh, fuck off with your thirsty compliments.

“It has nothing to do with me. I’ve played with a lot of guys who don’t put up your numbers. That’s all you,” Sid replies matter-of-factly.

“Yeah, okay. I’m not number three in the league averaging thirty points per game,” Arnaz fires back.

“31.4,” I grit out.

“What?” Arnaz asks.
