“Hey,” he says as I turn to walk away. “Sorry for being a possessive asshole.”

“You know I love that shit.” Maybe it’s twisted, but I get off on how much he wants me for himself. Plus, I miss our flirting and intimacy. I stare at my hickey-less neck every morning, and an overcast settles over my day.

“I’ve been meaning to ask you…” I glance around to make sure we’re still out of earshot. “I’m trying to reach a new record tonight. Know anyone who can keep up with an insatiable cumdump?”

He swallows roughly, his lids dropping to sexy slits. His stare says I’m in for a marathon dick down when we get home. “Go, before you get fucked against that shed,” he threatens, taking a step closer toward me.

I wink at him as I step back.

I pop into the empty shed to quickly tuck my erection under my waistband.

After I helpIdris figure out how to plug an erroneous irrigation hole he created and correct Ussef’s spacing for the seeds he’s planting, I head back to Phil.

“Everything okay with Sid?” he asks.

“Yep. All good. How’s it going over here?”

“You tell me. How am I doing?”

I scan his work. He’s almost finished mixing in the compost.

“Great! I think we can start adding the transplants now.”

I have trays lined up and ready for planting.

“You want to tease the roots like so and sprinkle in a little root growth fertilizer, then place it down just like this. Fill in thesides with the compost blend we just created. Then you water. We’ll top it with the cedarwood mulch over there to keep the weeds down and moisture in.” I point to a wheelbarrow full of mulch.

“Easy enough. You’re a good teacher,” he says as he reaches for a tray and mimics what I showed him.

“Thanks. I’ve had practice. We had a small garden growing up.”

“Do you garden at home?”

I respond quickly, remembering to change all of the “we’s” to “I’s”.

“I started an organic fruit and vegetable garden, but I’m away so much that the gardeners maintain it most of the time.”

“Maybe I can come over and see it.”

My head flicks up to meet his gaze.Fuck. Sid was right.Maybe I could’ve denied his flirtatious tone, but there’s no denying the way he’s looking at me right now. My face grows warm.

I clear my throat. “I’m seeing someone,” I blurt out.

His hands freeze in the dirt.

“Whoa! Don’t seem so surprised. I’m actually a catch,” I joke, trying to lighten the mood.

“N-no, I mean, yes, of course you are! I haven’t heard anything, and, well, you’ve been staunchly single and focused on the game. I guess I am a bit surprised.” You’d be hard-pressed to miss the disappointment on his face.

“It’s serious, my relationship. We’ve kept things private for a while now for reasons I can’t disclose here,” I say, lowering my voice.

Phil’s eyes soften. He gets that I can’t get into details about my relationship in public since I’m not out.

“Thanks for telling me. It’s uh, good—I mean, I’m happy you found someone. They’re very lucky.”

I stare at him. In another life, I could maybe see me and him enjoying each other’s company. It wouldn’t be as passionate and profound as what I have with Sid. I feel safe and loved to my core with Sid. He’s it for me. I just need to fix the mess that I’ve made by keeping things from him and not working on my shit.

“That’s nice of you to say, but I’m the lucky one. What about you? Are–” I start to ask him if he’s dating anyone, but my voice is overpowered by a pair of boisterous voices.
