“Takes my mind off everything else.”
I looked up at him and frowned. “Really?”
He shrugged, handing me the remote. “Find us another movie. I’m not tired yet.”
Taking the remote, I flipped through the options when it landed on a movie I’d been dying to see. “Ooh! That looks good.”
“You make me watch that shit and I will whip your ass.”
“Promise?”
Danny stiffened, and I realized what I’d said.
Gulping, my eyes shot to his to find him staring down at me, his eyes dark, swirling with desire.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to say that.”
He growled, taking the remote from my hand, turning off the television. Sitting up, I took a deep breath and tried to gather myself. It had been months since Danny and I had been together, coupled with his accident, memory loss and everything else going on, sex never entered my mind. Not that I didn’t think about it. I did. I was a man, for crying out loud. I thought about sex all the damn time.
“Talk to me, Dante.”
“I can’t get it out of my head.”
“What?”
“Seeing you with Carrie. Every time I close my eyes, it’s all I see.”
Danny said nothing as I continued, “I know you didn’t remember me, but it still hurts.”
“I’m sorry.”
Groaning, I got to my feet and started pacing, my agitation rising fast. “I know you’re sorry, but I can’t help what I’m feeling. Seeing you with that bitch did something to me, Danny. It changed me. I don’t ever remember feeling so angry before. Seeing you with her, I felt this rage wash over me. I couldn’t control it. Then you remembered me and she laughed. She fucking laughed at me! I couldn’t stop myself. I killed for you that night. I didn’t think. I just shot her. I wanted to wipe her from the world and I did.”
Danny leaned back on the couch and smirked. “Yeah, you did. Nice shot, by the way.”
“This isn’t funny!”
“Oh, I think it is. You’re jealous.”
“I am not!”
“Then why did you kill her?”
“I don’t know.”
“Oh, I think you do. You’ve never liked any of the women I dated. In fact, you fucking hated them, but you never said a word. Why?”
“You know why.”
“No, I don’t.” He smirked. “Tell me.”
“Because they weren’t good enough for you!”
“But you are?”
“Yes!”
“Then what’s the problem? You have me. I’m right here. All you have to do is reach out and take what you want.” Danny exhaled a slow, deep exhalation and leaned back onto the couch, closing his eyes. He parted his legs slightly, making it clear I had free rein over him.
