“I thought you were just with Drake?”
I can’t help but chuckle at Dad’s confusion. “I’m still with Drake, but we are also with Aurora. We’re all with her.”
“Well, as long as you kids are happy. Love isn’t linear. I hate that you’ve found yourself in this position though, especially for her sake,” Mom says, sounding more awake.
“I don’t think we can call them kids anymore, sweetheart.” Dad chuckles.
I hear the sound of skin hitting skin and know that she slapped his chest.
“You know what I mean,” she scolds.
I hear muttering in the background and know that they’ve shut everything else out and only they exist in their little bubble.
I clear my throat.
“Are you okay though?” Dad asks, remembering I’m on the phone.
“I’ll be better when we find out who betrayed us and the dust settles, but I’m okay.”
“Well, let us know if you need anything,” Mom says. “It’s late, so we’re going to go back to sleep.”
“Okay, again, sorry for calling so late.”
“It’s okay, Liam. You take care,” Dad says before hanging up.
“Bye,” I say, even though the line is already dead.
Rolling over onto my stomach, I shut my eyes. Today feels as if it will never end. How it all went to shit so quickly, I’ll never know. My mind spins as I try to figure out who could be behind this.
Could it be someone we know?
Could it be someone who works for us?
A complete stranger who put the camera up for their own kicks and found something much more?
I don’t know how it happens, but the next thing I know Drake is shaking me awake.
“What’s wrong?” I mumble as I roll over.
“You fell asleep.”
“I did?”
Drake smirks down at me. “Yeah, about two hours ago.”
“I didn’t mean to.”
Drake’s eyes soften. “I know, but you needed it. How did the call go with your parents?”
“Better than the one with your father, I bet.”
“Our call got cut short thanks to Saul.”
“We should send him a thank-you.” I smirk. “What did he want though? Did he have anything for us?”
“He told me the videos are being pulled and that he’s flying out here tomorrow so we can go over everything.”
“That’s good.” I nod. “Have you heard from Ezra and Aurora yet?”
