Katie gave me the rundown on how she got her spot. Let’s just say I am not too keen on banging some random dude in front of them to earn their trust or respect.
Sounds like to me they were collecting blackmail. A sure-fire way to keep her in line.
I have a feeling if she had even one strand of hair outside of their line, they would flip out evidence of her debauchery to get it back in place.
I shiver at the thought.
I don’t want to give them anything on me.
That feeling of sisterhood I had felt dampened when I found out. Maybe it’s out of necessity, not true love for one another.
Deciding I’m over this, I make my way down the hall toward the room I saw the girls disappear into. I’m about to knock when it swings open.
“Oh good. You’re here. Hang by Katie’s side tonight. She looks a little overwhelmed.”
Tiffany doesn’t wait for me to respond as she filters out of the room. The rest of the girls fall in line behind her, leaving Katie inside with tears in her eyes.
I step in, closing the door behind me.
“What’s wrong?”
She takes a deep breath, pasting on a smile. “Nothing. I can’t really tell you even if I wanted to.”
I nod in understanding. A bag sits in her lap. A bag she didn’t have when she got here.
“Is there anything I can do to help?”
She shakes her head. “I have a task tonight, and it’s more than I was expecting. I need to get results.”
There’s that word again.
I kneel next to her as she stays seated in the chair.
“You can trust me, Katie.”
She gives me a long look.
I let her see the sincerity in my eyes. I won’t betray her trust unless I absolutely have to. I have a gut feeling that whatever this has to do with is related to the reason I even infiltrated these girls, but I won’t rat on Katie. She’s been good to me. I’ll do whatever I can to protect her.
She lets out a deep sigh, opening the top of the bag.
My eyes widen as I take in the little baggies filled with pills and a logo on the front.
“What is that?”
She shrugs. “I don’t really know. I can’t tell you all the details, mostly because I don’t know them, but whenever we come to a party, one of us is assigned to this duty. Someone will come up to me and ask me for a party favor. I’ll hand it over as they slip me some money. It’s not the same at each party. This one is obviously pills. The last one was powder. I think it depends on the group of people here. It already makes me anxious, but this is twice the amount we normally have to move. I don’t know if I can do it.”
My heart hammers in my chest. “What happens if you don’t?”
Her eyes flash in fear. “Failure is not an option.”
I nod. “Okay then. We better get to work. How do they know to come to you?”
She shrugs. “I guess the bag? I never really asked.”
“How much are they?”
“Tonight they are twenty a bag.”
