“You’re way more.” Leaning in, I press a kiss to her forehead. “I’m glad you’re here.”

“I’m glad I am too. I’m also glad you didn’t kill Matteo. Out of all the men my brother commands, he’s one of the best. I didn’t spend much time with him, but I could tell he actually cares. My papa always saw it as a weakness, but I think it can be a strength as well.”

“Me too. The way you care, only makes you stronger.”

“Sometimes you say the sweetest things,” she teases.

“Only for you,a ghrá.”

As she snuggles in closer, we lay in silence, lost in our thoughts.

I know hers are weighed heavily by her mother’s confession. Worn out mentally from the visit with her mother.

My thoughts are on her. Only ever her. Even when I need to make decisions for the family, my thoughts stray to her.

What would she think? Would she be proud of me?

When she came into my life, she changed me. She made me want to be a better man. For her.

As I listen to her breathing even out, I kiss the top of her head, inhaling her sweet scent.

She didn’t know it then, but that one night she changed the trajectory of my life. I will never get enough of her. No other will ever compare.

Yet even though she’s sleeping in my arms, I cannot help this feeling of dread. This feeling that our time is running out.

Another dead end.

Rubbing my hand over my face, I curse to myself. I’m supposed to be good at this. The best, Killian had said.

Why can’t I find this guy?

Killian is still thinking it’s a traitor in their group, but the more I run into these walls, the more I think it’s not someone on the inside.

Why would they be going through all of this to hide it?

Something in my gut says that there is more to this than meets the eye. The fact that Killian was alerted to it in the first place is my first clue.

If they were hiding what they were doing, they would know to do so in a way that wouldn’t be suspicious.

At first, it was believable because I believed I was working with a newbie who didn’t know what they were doing.

If that had been the case, I would have caught him by now.

No, this isn’t some low-level grunt skimming off the top.

This is bigger.

I can’t figure out why though.

“My love, if you keep huffing and grunting, I’m going to have to come fuck you senseless until you’re happy again.”

I glance up at Killian.

He came back to the pub today to work alongside me. He’s doing his business work while I work on his side task.

I have to admit, I kind of love it. The way we can work side by side on our own shit but enjoy the company of each other without saying a word.

It makes me want a future where this is our daily routine. Where I’m his equal helping him run his business while he lets me do my thing.
