“Okay,” I say, trying to hide my smile.
My heart warms in my chest. I think I would follow Killian anywhere he would want to go.
“Doyou remember when we went to Cefalu?”
Leaning back, I think about when we went to Cefalu, a small coastal town in Italy about an hour away from Greer’s family home. We wandered the village, visited the Duomo Cathedral and drank coffee in the courtyard. Hiked up to Tempio di Diana and admired the fourth century BC temple. Climbed higher and visited the ruins of Castle Norman. Had a picnic overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. But my favorite part was having her alone, all to myself. Without worrying about prying eyes.
“Who owns this place?” I ask as I set down our bags, looking around.
“This place belongs to a friend’s family. Don’t worry,” Greer says over her shoulder, walking farther into the house.
I walk behind her as she opens a set of balcony doors, following her out. I take in the lush green lawn with a private pool and trees, giving us privacy.
“See that walkway over there?” Greer asks.
Stepping behind her, I wrap my arms around her. “I do.”
Greer leans back into me. “It leads to a private beach that only we have access to.”
“Oh?” I say, peppering kisses along her neck.
“Hmmhmm,” Greer hums, tilting her head to the side, giving me more room.
“Does this mean frolicking in the sea, naked?” I tease as I nip at her collarbone, making Greer chuckle.
“No, it means dinner on the beach while checking out the sunset.”
My phone vibrating pulls me out of the memory. Checking the screen, I see that it’s Greer saying she’s on her way.
Setting my phone down, I’m pulled back into the past.
I stare at Greer wearing a white dress with her feet in the ocean as the sun sets in front of her, reflecting off the deep blue water. She looks over her shoulder, smiling at me.
I could stare at her for the rest of my life.
My heart beats so fast I can’t help but reach up and rub my chest, making her frown. Greer walks toward me, dress blowing in the breeze, giving me a glimpse of her thighs.
“Are you okay?” she asks as I pull her into me.
Leaning down, I give her a kiss before pulling back. “Never better.”
“Don’t you wish we could stay here forever?” she asks wistfully.
“In a perfect world we could,” I tell her, brushing her windblown hair out of her face.
Greer tips her chin up. “Do you regret meeting me, Killian?”
“Don’t ask such foolish questions, a ghrá.”
“But it’s not like we have much of a future.” She ducks her head.
Tipping her chin back up, I meet her eyes. “Never hide those beautiful eyes from me,” I gently chide. “But let’s not worry about the future now. Let’s just enjoy what time we have together, the rest we can figure out later.”
Greer nods, standing on her tiptoes, kissing my lips softly.
The knock at my office door pulls me out of the memory.
“Hey, you okay?” Greer asks as she walks in.
