She rolls her eyes. “I’ll be nice if I feel like it.” Hailee stands. “Would either of you like some coffee? I need something to keep my hands busy before I go crazy.”

“I’ll take some coffee, thanks. Here, let me give you some money.” I lean over, grabbing my wallet from my back pocket.

“Don’t worry about it,” Nate tells me as he stands. “I’m going with her. Come on, Comet.” I watch as my brother throws his arm over her shoulder and walks toward the elevator.

I feel my phone vibrate and pull it out of my pocket.

Any word yet? The guys are getting antsy. Need anything?

I can’t help but smile that my guys want to know how she’s doing even though they don’t know her.

Hopefully soon.

Epilogue

Willow growls. “Stop babying me!”

“You were stabbed and had to have major surgery. Excuse me for caring,” I snap back as I fluff her pillow.

Willow was released from the hospital two days ago after having to stay for three days. To say she isn’t a good patient would be an understatement. All she wants to do is move around and talk about what’s next.

“Seriously, Chase, what are we going to do?” she asks as she bats away my hand.

I walk around the bed and lay down on my side. “Like I’ve told you the last five times you’ve asked, don’t worry about it. I’ll take care of it.”

I watch Willow shift onto her side, facing me. Reaching out, I brush a piece of hair out of her face that escaped the braid Hailee put in this morning.

“Go to sleep,” I say softly.

“I’m so sick of sleeping,” she whines, making me laugh.

“So you’ve said,” I tease. “Who would have thought you would be a cranky patient.”

“I’m only cranky because you’re over there looking like that.” She waves her hand at me.

“Like what?” I ask, staring down at myself.

“Like sex on a fucking stick. No shirt and gray sweatpants sitting low on your hips.” She groans.

“Do you want me to put a shirt on?” I laugh.

“Yes! Because you’re turning me on and you won’t do anything about it.” She narrows her eyes.

“I think I’ll just stay right like this. For all the hell you’ve put me through, I think you’re due to suffer a little.”

“That’s not even fair!” She covers her eyes, hiding from me. “Tell me a story.”

“A story, huh? Nice subject change.”

“Yeah, and make it a good one.” She smirks as she tucks her hands under her cheek.

“There was once a man who ran the town. He had everyone under his thumb and he never let anyone close. Until one day he saw a beautiful brunette who gave zero fucks. He could tell she was the kind of woman who would change his life, and he wasn’t ready for that. So he stayed away. He watched her from a distance until he couldn’t any longer. Then he swept the loud, sarcastic woman off her feet. Then they lived in a blissful state of constant fights and makeup sex.”

“Seriously?” She raises a brow. “That’s some love story.”

“It’s our love story.” I smirk, making her roll her eyes. “Every king needs a queen and you are most definitely queen material, babe.”

“Queen material gets left behind, huh?” she says with a little bite, making me sigh.
