“As soon as you can keep these crackers down and use the bathroom.”

I groan. “This is so embarrassing.”

“Don’t be embarrassed. I like waiting on you hand and foot.” Then he chuckles.

“Haha. Very funny.”

“I thought so. Do you want to try some crackers?”

I nod, wanting more than anything to go home. As soon as I eat one whole cracker, I realize my mistake.

“I don’t feel so well.”

Before I can ask, Mick puts a bucket in front of me just as I throw up. I dry heave a couple of times before my stomach settles.

“Sexy, right?” I groan.

“You’re always sexy. Don’t rush this. I’ll be here as long as it takes. I love you, Shane.”

I give him a small smile. “I love you too.”

I laughas I watch Shane try to move around the kitchen with her crutches.

My homecoming wasn’t quite like I planned, but I’m still happy to be here.

Shane may feel differently though. It’s only been three days since she got home from the hospital, but she’s determined to get back on track.

We had to cancel a couple of her excursions, but she’s getting me caught up so I can take over for her until she gets back on her feet. I’ve even found a kid in town who knows the area and was looking for a job. He just graduated high school and didn’t want to go the traditional college route. Instead, he’s agreed to help us out while we get things situated.

“I can’t believe I did this to myself,” she groans.

“Let me help you, baby girl. You don’t need to do everything yourself anymore. Let me help,” I practically beg her.

“I know. Okay, I was trying to make myself a cup of coffee,” she sighs.

I grab a cup and fill it for her before setting it on the counter next to her.

“It’s okay to need me, Shane. I love you. I’m here for you.”

“I know. I’m just glad you’re home. I missed you.”

“I missed you too. This may have put a damper on some of my plans with you, but you know what we can still do?” I brush some fallen hair out of her face.

“What?” she huffs.

I kneel down, carefully pushing her knees apart. “I haven’t had dessert in a while.”

She smiles. “I guess I should serve you some dessert then.”

I lean in right as the front door slams.

“Honey, I’m home!” Kaylee yells out, making us groan.

“Seriously?” I grumble.
