Taeja powered on her car as traffic inched forward. “I haven’t been…”
“Remember, we spoke about you managing your time more wisely?”
“How can I forget how you and Cassedi ganged up on me?”
“We want what’s best for you, but I understand that your schedule is packed. I hope you can visit me while you’re here this weekend. Owen gave me ingredients to make some banana puddings for Dee because she’s craving them. I know she can’t eat all of them, so I want you to have one.”
Taeja smiled at the mention of Dijonae. She was elated that everything worked out for them in the end, especially for herself and Zain. She was unsure how she’d live with herself if he went away and didn’t return to her and Damon.
“I’ll see if I can come by after work tomorrow,” Taeja promised.
“Alright. Bye, my child. Focus on driving. Let me know when you’re home.”
Taeja smiled as she ended the call. Kirone’s deep, sultry voice filled the silence until Taeja was home.
Damon sat in the living room, watching television while chewing chips. He rested the bag aside and called her over. He pulled her onto him, showering her face and neck with kisses. “How was work today?”
“Good. You?”
“Tiring.”
Taeja frowned. “Do you want a massage to help you sleep?”
He shook his head. “I want to bring you out to dinner.”
“But you’re tired—”
He motioned his head toward the mug on the table. “Nothing coffee can’t fix. Go get ready.”
“Okay.” She went upstairs to their bedroom, smiling when she saw a new dress on the bed with heels and jewelry. “One thing with Damon? Him ago dress me up when we a go out.” Laughing, she went into the shower and had a quick one. While getting dressed, Damon entered the room.
“You don’t have to wear underwear,” Damon said before walking into the closet.
Taeja rolled her eyes. “I’m wearing them. You have no behavior, and mi doh waa yu grab up mi front ina the people dem restaurant.”
He laughed. “I haven’t touched you in a week. Suppose I want easy access?”
“Mi naa listen to yu.”
“I won’t be listening to you either when you need help to study.” He peeked his head out and smirked.
Taeja gasped and slipped it off. “I hate you, Damon,” she hissed, and he grinned. She rolled her eyes, knowing she needed his help to finish the semester. Why did she even take all honors classes? The workload was intense. But surely, with Damon’s help, she’d pass with flying colors — just like her last test.
Entering the bedroom with his tie thrown over his shoulder, he smirked. “You love me like cooked food.”
She chuckled as he stopped before her. Fixing his tie, she said, “You think you’re Jamaican, huh?”
“I am by association.”
Finished with his tie, she laughed and walked away. “Where’s Zain?”
“He’s with our mom. You’ll most likely see him tomorrow,” Damon said before leaving the room.
Taeja finished getting dressed, then joined Damon downstairs. They hopped in one of his cars, and he drove them to the semi-circle-shaped hotel.
Taeja’s mouth dropped. “No way!”
He chuckled. “Surprise!”
