“Sorry for interrupting,” she apologized. “We’re going to a cookshop. Do youwant anything?”

“Yeah.”

Her brows raised. “What do you want?”

“What you’re having.”

Nodding, she turned to walk away. She hated leaving him in a strange environment when he was boiling with the rage of a thousand men. But there wasn’t much she could do now — she knew he wouldn’t touch her while she was still this sore.

So, she left him there and entered Wayne’s vehicle. Wayne drove off with dancehall music playing in the background.

Watching Sakara bob ZsaZsa on her lap, Taeja asked, “What do you do?”

“A lot of things,” Sakara replied. “I’m a social media influencer, and I model hair and clothes. It helps me with dental school. You?”

“An intern at his company,” Taeja said, glancing at Damon.

“That’s how you met?”

“We met at a club.”

Sakara’s brows furrowed as she stared at Damon. “You don’t look like the clubbing type.”

Damon shrugged. “I’m not. I was just trying to have fun with my brother.”

“I see…”

“What do you do, Wayne?” Taeja asked. She hoped he wasn’t still beating himself up about earlier. How could he know they were cousins?

“I carry tourists for a hotel and do rafting,” Wayne said.

Sakara said, “You should carry them rafting before they leave. When are you—”

“Thursday morning,” Taeja said, and Sakara frowned.

“That’s not a lot of time to do anything, but I’ll think of some places if you’re down for it,” Sakara said, and Taeja nodded.

Minutes later, they arrived at the cookshop. Sakara ordered the food, then they were off again. Staring at her phone, Sakara hissed.

“Is everything okay?” Taeja asked.

“I have a practical tomorrow, and my friend had something come up. It’s going to take forever for me to find someone to fillin—”

“I can do it,” Taeja offered.

“Are you sure?” Sakara asked. “I don’t want to inconvenience you.”

“It’s fine,” Taeja assured. She wanted to spend some time with Sakara.

“Okay. Thanks, I appreciate it. When we get back to Aunty, I’ll let you know what time you should be ready.”

Taeja nodded, leaning her head off Damon’s shoulder as they arrived at Cassedi’s. The first thing she noticed was that Zain wasn’t in the house. He was still in the backyard. She shared some food and brought it to him, then returned to the front yard. She chatted and laughed with her cousins, and even Wayne relaxed completely.

After she finished eating, Cassedi said, “It’s late now. I’ll go over to Mr. Valery.”

“Let me get ZsaZsa to bed. When Jaheim comes for her, I’ll come over there,” Sakara said before heading into the house.

“Are you coming?” Cassedi asked Taeja.
