Zane- Careful, Hudson, I’ll happily put that tongue to good use,his voice whispered through my head. I smiled and headed inside. Yeah, I’m going to have that happen soon.
Oberon
I wentto get dressed after Hudson indicated it would be an indoor and outdoor get together. I threw on a pair of swim trunks and a button down, left open, and braided my hair before I made my way next door. I let myself in through the back door and was met with Zane, Hunter, Grayson and Ryder sitting at the kitchen island, dressed similarly.
“Gentlemen,” I nodded at them, and Hunter smiled ferally. Zane may be the leader of their friendship group, but Hunter was definitely the protector of the group, always ready for a fight. When I first saw them, they looked familiar, but I haven’t been able to place exactly why I felt that way.
“You know, now that you are part of the ‘I love Hudson Crew’, you’re going to have to start pulling your weight around here,” Ryder started, his eyes twinkling, belying his heavy tone and I frowned.
“Okay, I’ll bite. In what way?” The rest of the guys smirked, and Hunter made his way around the island to stand in front of me and crossed his arms.
“Talent. We were made to put on a talent show. We decided, just now, that it is a rite of passage and you will have to do something too.” My head snapped around when I heard laughter come from the staircase and my breath caught in my throat. Hudson and Remi were walking towards us in bathing suits and a long see-through skirt that I guess was supposed to be a cover up, but I’m not exactly sure what it was supposed to cover up if it was see-through. Humans are weird and I keep having to remind myself that she grew up on the other side of the Veil.
Her green bathing suit was supposed to be a one piece, but her stomach was exposed and there was just enough to cover her breasts, which had me salivating, and barely enough material to cover her ample behind. I cleared my throat and swallowed thickly. Over nine hundred years old and I’m reacting like a Fae pup at the sight of her.
“You guys are full of shit, that is not a rite of passage,” Remi pointed at them making her way to the fridge to grab a bottle of water.
“That’s not fair, we totally had to perform. It’s the new guys turn,” Ryder playfully stomped his feet, crossed his arms and pouted. Hudson laughed and walked up to him, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissed him. I looked away while he wrapped his arms around waist and caressed her back side eliciting a moan from her.
That is the only way to shut Ryder up, Remi’s voice projected through our heads. I laughed and the guys smirked. Ryder pulled away and laughed, “I’ll take it.” I shook my head at the easy feel of their group dynamics.
Hunter scoffed,” yeah only because we aren't going to be kissing your ass to shut you up. I'll just punch you in the face.”
“Well I guess i'll consider that the foreplay,” Ryder retorted and Hunter rolled his eyes.
“Okay, deal. I’ll perform something tonight,” I said seriously, and Hunter laughed and clapped my shoulder.
“Oh, I’m looking forward to this,” Zane murmured, pushing Ryder away and hugging Hudson close. My jaw ticked, wanting to be in his place. It is certainly a strange feeling to come in last when they have already built a history over the years. Remi even seemed to fit in like a puzzle piece, despite just meeting them as well, but it could be because Remi was a blue haired version of Hudson, so it made sense. I would earn my place soon, in the meantime being around so much affection was comforting.
Hudson
“Where is Kalen? We really need to discuss this entire prophecy thing. I want the entire thing plainly put out in front of us; we have a slight advantage now, considering that we now have Scail.”
Everyone frowned but Grayson sighed, “I’m afraid to even ask why, considering every time we get an answer it leads to fifty more questions, but I’ll go ahead and ask. Why is having Scail a deal breaker?”
I smirked at Oberon, “Well Scail, which I looked up your name and I have no idea what the fuck that means,” I looked at him and shook my head. “Scail’s real name is Oberon.” I waited for a second before everyone started talking at once.
“Wait, the guy who has the prophecy?” Hunter’s voice came out through the cacophony of voices. I smiled at his expression.
“Yup, the one and only. Now I know what you are all thinking, literally it's distracting, and Ryder I don’t think that position is even possible,” I said giggling as he projected a bunch of images to me. “Anyways, it wasn’t like he was going to meet us and be like ‘hey here’s the other part of the prophecy, I totally trust that you are who you say you are, you definitely won’t fuck us over or anything,’” I imitated Oberon’s sexy chocolate voice.
“Do I really sound…” I waved him off before he finished and sat down on top of the kitchen island.
“Like you are trying to solicit sex from every female within a thousand-mile radius?” He choked back a laugh. “Yeah, not funny, it is seriously befuddling, and you should really work on not sounding like that. I mean it’s bad enough these four,” I pointed at the boys, “sound like a wet dream, but now I get a fifth male mate and he sounds like an orgasm?” I shook my head. “It is not even fair to my ovaries.” He shook his head at me, and the guys rolled their eyes.
“She is right, you know,” Remi added, “If I liked your vaginal stabbing packages, it would be tempting. I thank Gaia every day I don’t have the ‘scramble my insides’ gene.” I about fell off the counter as we burst out laughing. Kalen, Jensi, Luca and King had chosen that time to walk in and their faces were priceless, and I couldn’t stop laughing.
“Great timing.” Kalen, deadpanned. I giggled as he pulled up a chair and settled down next to us.
Finally calming down, I took a deep breath, winked at Obi and turned to Kalen. “Right, so now that the laughs are out of the way, we were discussing how Scail’s real name is Oberon. Yes, we already went through the shock phase, moving on,” noting their faces. “Kalen, you need to give up the entire prophecy and Obi needs to add the last part so we can figure this all out.”
Kalen sighed and took a piece of worn paper out of his pocket and handed it to us. King and the guys crowded around as we read what was on the paper. I frowned and looked at Oberon.
“This is what you meant when you mentioned staying away from shadows and the breeze bringing me that song to sing that night.” He nodded.
“Mystical brotherhood, that must be referring to the mate bond,” added Grayson.
“Humanity being your greatest weapon, makes sense seeing how you see things a lot differently than everyone here and want to rule differently,” Ryder murmured, reading the paper over and over again.
