I start.Oh no, is he going to bring up my missing shoe?Or will he reprimand me, and warn me not to lose my current pair at the gala? After all, I’m wearing Manolo Blahnik red stilettos, which cost a fortune.I can’t afford to lose one of these.

But Dominic pulls out a velvet box from behind his back, and then pops open the lid. When I see the item lying inside, my eyes go round as my red lips part.

“Oh no, I couldn’t,” I say hurriedly.“That’s much too fancy.”

“No, it’s not too fancy at all,” Dominic says in a low tone.“Turn around, sweetheart. This is the perfect complement to your dress.”

I gasp, swiveling slowly as Dominic lifts the necklace from its velvet box. It’s a gorgeous string of diamonds, with a ruby pendant at the base.I stare straight ahead as the billionaire’s big fingers gently fasten the necklace around my nape, brushing the sensitive skin there.

Then, I turn back and his blue eyes gleam with approval.

“Perfect,” he growls.“It suits you, Miss White.”

I catch a glimpse in the mirror, and it’s true. The ruby sits just over my décolletage, drawing attention to my big bust without being obscene. The diamonds glitter, highlighting my creamy skin, and even my blonde hair in its chignon seems to glow brighter.

“Thank you,” I whisper.“It’s beautiful.”

Dominic winks in reply, and then out of nowhere, he produces a corsage. It’s just a small one to be tied around the wrist with a single red bloom at the center.I can’t help but giggle.

“You said you wanted a corsage, right?”he smirks.

“No, I was kidding!”I laugh.“You didn’t have to!”

But Dominic’s already taking my slim wrist in his big hands and fastening the lovely rose around my hand. Then, he steps back to survey his work.Something comes over his handsome features as he looks at me, a dark flush highlighting those stark cheekbones.

“Perfect,” he rasps.“Absolutely gorgeous.Come, Miss White,” he commands while bowing slightly at the waist.“Your chariot awaits.”

I giggle again because this man is so confounding! He’s dominant and powerful, as well as being playful, lighthearted, and arrogant at once. How intriguing! But I laugh again because the evening’s just begun ...and it’s going to be a night to remember.

Dominic

She’s lovely, vivacious, and utterly perfect.I look around and see Angela animatedly chatting with Mr.and Mrs.Gruber over by one of the tables. The elderly couple looks captivated by the sweet girl’s charm and personality, and I can see why. It’s because Angie’s glowing. She’s literally shining as she stands in the large ballroom, her blonde hair radiating light, with diamonds glittering at her neck.

But it’s more than just the play of light mixed with Angela’s beautiful form.It’sher.The curvy girl has an inner radiance that’s apparent every time she smiles, and whenever she laughs, my ears perk at the lilting lightness.I’m attuned to this woman with every cell of my body, like it or not.

After all, this isn’t exactly what I expected when I invited Angie to the gala.I admit, I had an ulterior motive, which is that I didn’t want to bring a normal date who’d develop expectations. Those types of ladies are everywhere in New York, and it’s honestly a drag at this point in my life. They’d never leave my side, those red claws digging into my arm for countless hours.Even worse, they generally expect sex at the end of the night, which normally, would be fine. But in the last couple months, I’ve been celibate.I know, it’s crazy and out of character. But the thought of boning some faceless chick makes my skin itch at the moment.Instead, I crave curves, a lilting laugh, and the humor that I see sparkling in Angela’s eyes.

Unable to help myself, I move towards the beautiful woman as if magnetized, stepping into the conversation.

“If you’ll excuse me,” I murmur to Bert and Janet Gruber.“I’m just going to grab my date for a whirl on the dance floor.”

“Oh no problem!”Janet smiles.“We’ve had a wonderful time chatting with your girlfriend, Dominic. Please bring her around again!”

“Oh yes, she’s lovely,” Bert chimes in before turning to his wife.“My dear, isn’t it time that we took a whirl around the dance floor as well? You used to cut the rug when we were in high school.Let’s see if you’ve still got moves!”

Then, the small couple glide onto the dance floor, their petite forms gyrating as they do the twist.Literally, Mr.and Mrs.Gruber are twisting on the dance floor, although the music is a classical melody. But Angela merely laughs in my arms as we sail seamlessly around the room, her lithe figure light and elegant in my arms.

“The Grubers are so cute,” she murmurs with a smile.“They were telling me about their latest trip to Malaga, Spain, and I had no idea!Did you know that the Grubers are practicing nudists, and that Malaga is a hotspot for nude beaches?”

I shoot a wry smile at the woman in my arms.Angela feels right, as if we’ve been dancing a lifetime together.

“I think the latest term is ‘naturist,’ sweetheart. The word ‘nudist’ has fallen out of fashion because it’s not just a clothes or no-clothes thing. It’s a lifestyle for the people who practice.”

Angela laughs melodiously.

“Sorry, I had no idea because I’m not up to date on naturist lingo. But it’s so interesting, isn’t it?I never would have guessed that about the Grubers. They must be what – seventy?Eighty?”
