I slid down his body as he set me upright just outside of the shower. Pushing the hair off my face, trying to smooth it, I shook my head, silently reiterating that I thought he was insane. I couldn’t possibly have four orgasms in one night, could I? I never had, but I also had never tried. Two had taken me by surprise, and so had three. But four? There was no way…
“Watch me prove you wrong,” he said, pushing my body under the spray of the water and following me in.
CHAPTERTWENTY-NINE
The feeling of the mattress dipping and the light rattle of dishes moving had me peeking through my eyelids, groaning when the brightness from the sun unforgivingly reminded me it was morning. Shifting my head to the right, a smile touched my lips when I saw Noah smiling back at me with a breakfast tray settled on his legs.
“Hungry?” he asked, picking up the mug of coffee and offering it to me.
“A little.” I scooted myself into a seated position and took the mug from his hands, sipping the piping hot liquid. He made it exactly how I liked it, with vanilla coffee creamer and a touch of coffee. “How did you know how I like my coffee?”
“You order vanilla lattes, Lils. Call it detective’s intuition that I figured at home you drink your coffee with vanilla creamer.”
Grinning, I leaned forward to kiss him, and he met me halfway. “Can we stay in bed today?” I asked against his lips.
“For a while, but we need to talk more about what these next few months will look like, Lily. You have a decision to make about whether you will wait for me.”
“It’s not a decision I have to make. I’m waiting, Noah. I told you.”
“I know that’s what you said, Lils, but here’s the thing. Three months is a long time. Hell, I’m not even sure it’ll just be three months. It could be longer, and the shitty thing I didn’t mention about this assignment is that I won’t be back at all during that time, and for the sake of the undercover job and safety protocol, communication will be limited. I have to leave my regular phone at home. I’ll have a burner that I’ll be able to reach out by text sometimes, but it may take weeks to hear from me.” He stopped and scrubbed his palm over his face. “This is the last thing I want right now, but it’s not something I can back out of. I’m already on thin ice at work. I can’t not do this, Lily.”
“I’m not asking you to not do it, Noah. I’m just saying I’ll be here waiting.”
“A better man would tell you not to wait for him. I shouldn't knowingly leave for months and ask you to be waiting when I get back, but the selfish side of me is hoping you will. What you ultimately choose to do when I’m away is up to you, Lily, but just promise me you’ll take this time to figure out you without my interference.”
Emotions got the best of me, and I bit down on my quivering lower lip, looking away to hide the tears that already silently fell. We both stayed quiet for several minutes and I stared out the window, looking at nothing at all. My heart had been on a rollercoaster for the past twenty-four hours, and I was exhausted. “That’s what you want?” I whispered into the coffee mug I held to my lips.
Noah reached over, taking the coffee from my hands and setting it down on the nightstand beside him. He sighed deeply, tucking a piece of my hair behind my ear, his knuckles trailing down my cheek after. “Flower, if I could kidnap you and keep you in a bubble with just me forever, I would. No, this is not what I want. Not at all. Do you honestly think that leaving right now is sitting well with me? Because it’s not.” Dropping his hand from my face, he grabbed my hand and laced his fingers through mine. “Do I want you to wait? God, yes. But whatever you end up doing when I’m gone, I will respect.”
We stared down at our connected hands and watched the rhythm of his thumb brush against my finger. Just when I thought the hurt would be done—I came back to tell him I was ready to commit to him, to finally be his. Now, there was a whole new reason for my heart to shatter. It almost felt worse than a breakup. Knowing that you wanted to be together but something would keep you apart…
“Do all the things you feel you’re meant to do. If that includes moving on without me, I’ll have to find a way to live with that without burning down the world in rage.”
“I won’t move on, Noah,” I told him, lifting my chin. “I want this. I wantyou. I’m waiting, Noah. As long as it takes.”
He smirked, giving me a piece of that lopsided smile that my heart had always melted for, catching that I was throwing his own words back at him. “A lot can happen in three months, Flower.”
Bringing our connected hands to his mouth, he placed a gentle kiss on the back of my hand before cradling it to his chest.
“I’m not going anywhere, Noah. I promise.”
Noah nodded, pursing his lips before he yanked me toward him, catching my mouth in a rough kiss as I fell into his lap. Within seconds, his hands were in my hair, weaving through the messy strands and pulling slightly to angle my head for better access. I let out a sigh as he kissed me, hoping this moment would last forever.
My eyes shut as he kept one hand in my hair to hold me to him while shifting his body, reaching out to the side. I recognized the sound of the tray being pushed toward the foot of the bed before he eased me onto my back, his body hovering over mine. I was naked aside from one of his black tee shirts, which was now bunched up just below my breasts.
Kissing me lazily, he used one hand to pull down the gray sweatpants that he wore and also somehow sheathed himself with a condom. I was about to ask what type of sorcery he possessed to do all that without breaking our kiss when he plunged two fingers into me.
Gasping into his mouth, he stole my breath as he deepened the kiss before removing his fingers and replacing them with the part of him I craved the most.
Noah pushed into me relentlessly, nearly pulling completely out before slamming into me over and over, shifting my thoughts to memories of the night before. Noah in bed was rough and filthy, and I’d never been so turned on in my life.
The sounds of our bodies connecting fueled my frenzy.
“How am I going to survive months without this?” He dug his fingers into my hips, using his grip to pull back and thrust with more shallow strokes. Circling his hips, he shifted his body to grind against my clit, drawing a moan from my lips. “When I get back, you’re mine forever. I’ll chase you forever, Lily.”
Without warning, he pulled out of me and flipped me onto my stomach, grabbing me by my hips to pull me up so that I was on my knees. With my face pressed against the bed, Noah slapped my ass hard. I cried out; the sting taking me off guard, but it quickly bloomed into pleasure and turned into a lust-filled moan.
“Spread your legs, Lily,” he commanded, and I obeyed without question, pushing my legs further apart and forcing my back to curve more. “Better grab onto something. If it’s too much, tell me to stop.”
