“Great.” Lola eased back. “Want another drink?”

“God, yes.”

“That’s something the universe can provide right now.”

She rose to her feet and made her way back to the kitchen, adding tequila, ice and margarita mix to the blender. She set the machine to whirling and got down fresh glasses, rimming them with salt before pouring the slushy drinks with a generous hand.

She settled back on the rug beside Anna and handed her one. “To the perfect dress.”

Anna clinked her glass against Lola’s and drank. Her eyes bugged out. “How much tequila is in this?”

Lola sipped her own drink with a frown. It did seem a bit strong. “Not that much,” she replied. “I don’t think.”

“Huh.” Anna took another sip and shuddered. “Grant’s going to have to peel me off the floor when he shows up.”

“What time did you tell him to come by?”

“I didn’t. I’m supposed to call him when I’m ready to come home.” Anna drank again, her eyes going a little blurry, before she set the glass aside. “So, when are you going to spill what happened with Simon?”

Halfway through her third cocktail and pleasantly buzzed, Lola said, “Huh?”

“Last week. When he gave you a ride home. And don’t even pretend you don’t know what I’m talking about.”

“Oh. That.” Lola frowned. “I’m trying to forget.”

“It was bad?” Anna asked, her tone so shocked that Lola giggled.

“No. It was good. Really good sex. Pretty shitty morning after, though.”

Anna scowled. “He was an asshole, wasn’t he?”

“Sort of.” Lola frowned, unhappiness tightening her chest. “He saw me talking to my neighbor and automatically assumed I was cheating on Peter with him.”

Anna blinked. “You’re seeing Peter?”

“No. Simon thought I was. Because we were 'friendly',” she said, throwing up finger quotes.

“What, you’re not allowed to be friendly? What a dick.”

Lola shrugged. “I get the feeling he’s not the most trusting soul in the world. Probably an occupational hazard.”

“I guess,” Anna frowned. “Was that it?”

“He made it clear he’s not interested in seeing me again. He’s looking for a submissive, and we both know that’s not me.”

Anna eyed her friend. “So, that’s good, right? That he’s being honest about it? I mean, before you both get too involved.”

Too late for that. “Yeah, it is.” Lola forced a smile. “It’s a bummer, though. The sex was really good.”

Anna grinned, her eyes lighting. “Ooh, story time. Tell.”

Lola shoved aside her sadness and prepared to indulge in the next best thing to sex—talking about sex. “Well, you know how I call him Big Dick Hastings?”

Anna laughed. “He hates that.”

“I know. That’s how I knew he wouldn’t turn down the bet.”

Anna wiggled in delight. “Oh, this is going to be good.”
