“Mama Luke’s” he told her and picked up his wine.
She shook her head. “Never heard of it.”
“Technically, it’s called Mama Luciano’s, but everybody just calls it Mama Luke’s.” He set down his wine. “I order from them at least once a week. I think I put Mama’s grandson through college.”
“So there really is a Mama?”
He nodded. “Her son is technically the owner, but she runs the kitchen. And everything else, now that I think about it.”
“Well, thanks for sharing this. It’s amazing.”
“Thanks for having me over,” he replied. “I wondered if I was going to see you again.”
She paused with her fork halfway to her mouth. “What do you mean?”
He shrugged. “I told you to call me if you wanted to. After a week, I figured it wasn’t happening.”
“When was this?”
He looked at her. “The last day, just before I left. When I had you call my phone so you’d have my number.”
“You mean right after you fucked me into a coma?” She rolled her eyes. “Shane, I didn’t hear you.”
His brows snapped together in a frown. “What?”
“I didn’t hear you,” she repeated. “I was barely awake enough to dial the phone. The last thing I remember you saying was you used to live in Detroit.”
Amusement lightened his eyes. “Those post-sex sleepies.”
“Wait.” She set down her fork. “You were waiting for me to call you?”
“Yeah.”
“So, if I hadn’t texted you today...?”
He shrugged. “I would’ve assumed you weren’t interested in seeing me again.”
“You wouldn’t have contacted me? At all?”
“Nope.” He picked up his wine. “The ball was in your court. Or, it would’ve been, if you’d been listening.”
“I can’t believe you thought I was listening.” She sent him a chiding look and picked up her fork to resume eating.
“You know, most women don’t go comatose after an orgasm.”
“Well, I do. Which you should’ve known, you gave me enough of them.”
“Good point. Thanks for texting, by the way.”
“You’re welcome.” She smiled at him. “I’m happy to see you.”
He smiled back. “I’m happy to see you too. So, what’d you do this week?”
“Not much. I saw Delia on Monday, but other than that it’s just been work.”
“Have you heard from Derek?”
“No, but get this. After he got booted out of the resort and flew back here? He went to Delia’s house and told her I’d been captured by a sex cult.”
