“It’s okay. I was just trying to figure out how to say it. Shane doesn’t date other men. He says I’m enough,” he explained with a wink. “So when he does date, it’s usually women. Somehow that makes it easier. It also helps that he’s willing to share.”
“You mean...” She had to clear her throat. “You mean you date them too?”
He shook his head. “As much as I love women, I’m not interested in having a girlfriend. I’m at my poly limit with my two guys. But I like having sex with women, and some of Shane’s girlfriends have been into threesomes. So...”
“Oh.” She swallowed. Hard. “Wow.”
“Am I freaking you out yet?”
“Getting closer,” she managed.
“Sorry.”
“It’s okay.” She blinked away the haze of lusty thoughts and refocused on him. “Any other bombs you want to drop on me?”
“I think that’s about it,” he said. “Any thoughts?”
“It sounds hard,” Veronica said honestly.
“It is, sometimes.”
“Is it worth it?”
“Yeah, it’s worth it.” He smiled at her. “I’ve got two wonderful men in my life who love me and want me to be happy. Doesn’t get better than that.”
“Well, that’s romantic.”
“You sound surprised.”
“I am,” she admitted and grimaced. “Sorry.”
“No need to be. Most people think of non-monogamy, they think of cheating, which is pretty much the opposite of romance.”
“I can attest.”
“You’re thinking pretty hard there, beautiful,” he observed. “Care to share with the class?”
“It sounds complicated and fraught and the possibility for heartbreak seems huge, but it also sounds kind of...”
“Insane?” he guessed when she trailed off.
“Wonderful,” she finished. “It sounds kind of wonderful.”
“It is.” His smile was contented. “It’s not for everyone, but it works for us. Which brings me to the reason for my visit.”
Her eyebrows shot up. “It wasn’t to bring me a drink and enjoy the lovely sunset?”
“That was my secondary purpose. My primary purpose was to find out if you’re as into Shane as he’s into you.”
Her mind went blank. “What?”
“Seems to me like you are,” he went on, ignoring her slack-faced shock. “But since I just got done explaining how poly requires clear communication, I figured I’d ask.”
It took her a while to find her voice. “Ask what, exactly?”
His dimple winked again. “Do you want to fuck my boyfriend, Veronica?”
“Well, that’s clear,” she muttered, and he laughed.
