Page 33 of Sharing Shane

She smiled when she heard him scramble behind her, and Wyatt leaned down to whisper in her ear. “I take it we’re going to make it clear he’s been replaced?”

She flashed the key card at the reader on the conference room door. “Okay by you?”

“Oh, yeah,” he chuckled and held the door for her.

The room was small, with a round table and eight chairs in front of a wall of windows that showcased lush green foliage and vibrant blooms. In the distance she could just make out the blue of the ocean rolling in, white foam capping the waves as they crashed toward the golden stretch of sandy beach.

“We should go to the beach after this,” Wyatt commented, coming up behind her. “You know how to surf?”

She shook her head and smiled up at him. “No, I never learned.”

He draped an arm over her shoulder and pressed a kiss to her temple. She nearly jumped, catching herself just in time. “I’ll teach you.”

Shane stepped up to her other side, his big hand sliding to the small of her back. “You’ll teach her how to fall, you mean.”

“Sure.” Wyatt’s lips curled in a sexy smirk. “Then I can catch her.”

Veronica laughed, enjoying both of them. Then the door slammed, and their hands fell away, and she turned her back on the view.

She regarded her ex dispassionately. “What do you want, Derek?”

“I want to talk,” he told her stiffly and glared pointedly at Shane and Wyatt. “Alone.”

She shook her head. “I thought I made it clear I was done talking.”

“You canceled my plane ticket,” he accused.

She raised a brow. “I did. And as I’d bought it with my airline miles, I was well within my rights to do so.”

“Dammit, Veronica,” he began and took a step forward.

Shane’s low growl had him halting in his tracks.

“Watch it, Derek,” Wyatt said quietly. “You’re here because the lady allowed it, but there are lines. You don’t want to cross them.”

“You can’t threaten me,” Derek blustered.

“Can, and did.” Wyatt grinned, feral and sharp, all his boyish charm gone. “Want to test me?”

Derek’s eyes were furious, but his voice was cajoling. “I made a mistake, but I can make it up to you.”

“No, thank you,” Veronica countered coolly. “If that’s all you came to say, you can go ahead and leave.”

His expression darkened, his cheeks flushing with temper. “I paid for half of this vacation. I have every right to be here.”

Veronica merely raised a brow. “Your name has been removed from the reservation. I’m sure Lacy told you that.”

“I paid for it!” he repeated and actually slammed a fist on the table. “I’ll sue them.”

She shrugged. “You never made any payment to the resort, so I doubt you have any legal standing. But of course, you’re welcome to try.”

“I’ll sue you,” he returned, a combative glint in his eye.

“Okay.”

He paused at that, blinking in confusion. “Okay, what?”

“Okay, sue me.” She glanced at Wyatt. “Would that be small claims court, do you think?”
