“Come here,” he said, dragging her to his side. He pressed a soft kiss to her mouth. “Thank you.”
Her eyes were soft again, and she was smiling up at him dreamily. “For what?”
“For trusting me.” He kissed her again, breaking the contact far sooner than he’d have liked, and picked up the remote. “Ready for the movie?”
He felt her disappointed sigh in his bones. “Sure.”
He pressed ‘play’ and she curled up next to him. She was adorable and sexy and if she hadn’t already taken sex off the table, he would’ve pointed out that he didn’t mind period sex at all. But she had, so he ignored his unruly libido and hugged her to his side, laughing at the movie with her. When it was over, he kissed her goodnight and walked out the door, then went home to take a very cold shower.
“So tell me.” Delia sucked noisily at her straw, slurping up the milkshake in the bottom of the glass. “When is this threesome happening?”
“I’m not sure,” Veronica said. “I think next Saturday, but that’s if Wyatt can find someone to cover his shift at the hospital. Sunday might also work, but Shane has an art fair he’s supposed to vend at in Mt. Pleasant.”
“Who knew scheduling an orgy would be so complicated?” Delia set her empty glass aside and looked around the diner. “Where’s our waitress? I’m hungry.”
“We ordered less than ten minutes ago,” Veronica reminded her.
“Right. Hey, did you ask them if you could film it?”
“No,” Veronica said firmly and stifled a laugh at Delia’s crestfallen face. “And don’t you ask, either.”
Delia gave an exaggerated sigh. “You’re such a buzz kill.”
“I have enough on my mind about without factoring your buzz into the equation,” Veronica muttered.
“Are you nervous?”
“Yeah, but it’s an excited kind of nervous. And Shane’s been really reassuring.”
“You two have been seeing each other a lot.”
“When our schedules mesh. Which isn’t often,” Veronica continued. “He works most weekends, going to fairs and festivals, and I’ve been putting in a lot of long hours.”
“It’s good, though?”
“Work? It’s great. I’m hoping they’re going to offer me a job when my CF is done.”
“That’s nice, but I meant you and Shane.”
“Oh.” Veronica smiled. “Yeah, it’s good.”
“Look at that dreamy smile,” Delia chortled. “You’re falling in love with him, aren’t you?”
“I don’t know,” Veronica replied and did her best to erase the dreamy smile. “It’s barely been a month.”
“More than, if you count Bermuda.”
“Bermuda was just sex,” Veronica began, and Delia snorted. “It was. It wasn’t until we got back that things started getting...complicated.”
“With feeeeeelings,” Delia sang.
“You’re such a pain in the ass.”
“Tell me I’m wrong.”
Veronica sighed. “You’re not wrong.”
Delia nodded sagely. “Yep. Feelings complicate everything. How’re you doing with the poly stuff?”
