I eagerly nod my head, and he chuckles, his warm breath against my ear and neck causing me to shudder with anticipation.
“I was thinking about how good this dress would look off of you.” He punctuates that statement with a nip at my earlobe and my knees buckle. He pulls me tight against his body and I arch my back so I’m completely pressed against him.
“What are you waiting for?” I purr.
Apparently, that cue from me is exactly what he’d been waiting for. Jay drops to his knees in front of me and makes quick work of the straps of my shoes, pulling them off one by one and tossing them over his shoulder. I giggle as one knocks over a small lamp and Jay turns his heated eyes on me as he slowly rises.
“Something funny?”
I stop laughing and shake my head. He smirks as he glides the straps of my sundress off my shoulders, then reaches his arms around my back to lower the zipper. The zipper is pretty well concealed and I smile to myself realizing he must have been paying pretty close attention throughout the night to figure out how to get it off me.
Once the dress pools at my feet, he takes a step back and eyes me in my white, lace strapless bra and matching panties. I hear him hiss in a breath before he says, “You look so fucking innocent.”
I step out of the circle of fabric at my feet and close the distance between us. “But you know better than that.”
He nods. “I do now.”
Truth is, I may still be naïve when it comes to some things, but Iama woman who knows what she wants. I may have only had a few partners, but I enjoy sex. It makes me feel good. Until Jay, it had always been about physical release. But now…now it’s something else. Something more.
He trails his hand softly down my cheek, and I tilt my face into his palm. “You’re something else, Kate,” he says, his eyes turning softer now.
“So are you,” I tell him, looking deep into his silver eyes.
His brows furrow and, judging by the emotions playing across his face, it seems as though he’s thinking something through. A moment later his eyes finally widen with some sort of realization. “Kate…I love you.”
Tears fill my eyes. Helovesme. I hadn’t been sure I’d ever hear those words from him. That either of us would ever be ready. Our childhoods were both so devoid of love. Yet we’d found each other, and together, we’d found love.
The logical side of me is wondering if it’s too soon, while the other side is shouting, “Who the hell cares? The man loves you!”
“I love you, too,” I tell him, pressing a soft kiss to his lips.
“But you’re crying,” he says with a frown as he pulls away, brushing a tear off my cheek.
“They’re happy tears. I promise,” I smile, and he returns it with a brand new smile for me. It’s the most heart-stopping, genuine smile I’ve ever seen on his face.
“I love you,” he says again, this time it comes out much more easily than the first.
I laugh, “I love you, too.”
He picks me up and I wrap my legs around his waist as we spin around, before we collapse onto his bed, both of us laughing like this is the greatest thing that’s ever happened.
And it is…it really is.
