I watch helplessly as Breezy's angry ass stomps off. I can only imagine the 'girl talk' going off in her head right now.

Maybe it's best I let her work it out before I speak to her.

I turn around and spring back over the fence. Mooky Duke approaches tentatively, and I cradle his head to calm him. Then we jog back to the barn. I want to be waiting for Breezy when she arrives.

Summer

How could she do this to me? She's my best friend! How could she send me up here unprepared, knowing whose place this is?

When I get her on the phone, I'm going to….

Dammit! I'm not going to say a fucking thing! I'm going to take it without a word!

She's my best friend, and this is HER wedding.

Thank God she doesn't understand how hard this will be for me. Thank God I never told her about all the years I crushed on Blaze. The guilt of having to put me in this impossible situation would have created a catastrophic meltdown.

But did she even know? Surely not. She would have bragged about Blaze stepping up and being a great brother.

Oh, my god!

So… this is all Brandon's fault!

But he doesn't know how badly I've wanted his little brother all these years. How hard it's been hiding how I feel.

Especially after the kiss!

His teasing was torturous!

He kept poking fun at me about how Blaze reacted to nearly killing me. "I've never seen him so protective before. And he sure didn't need much encouragement to shove his tongue down your throat. And you sure sucked it like it was…."

I never let him finish that sentence. I would either walk away or throw something at him.

Ten minutes later, after a long hike under the cooling canopies of the trees and up a steady incline, I round the corner and see the hideaway vacation house.

I'm so stunned I stop dead in my tracks.

Holy fucking hell! This is holy fucking hell!

Blaze

Breezy! As beautiful as ever … No … More beautiful than ever. Stares at me as if I were an alien from another planet as I walk up to her.

"Hey, Breezy. You okay?"

She shakes her head but doesn't speak. Instead, she eyes me. Trying to read how much I know about this situation.

"Here, let me take your backpack. It looks heavy."

Her eyes are shooting sparks at me, but she shrugs the cumbersome bag off.

I hook it on my shoulder and reach behind her for a luggage handle. "I take it you didn't know I owned the place."

She shakes her head, still in shock. But she takes the other luggage handle and walks with me toward the house.

"I didn't know you were coming to stay here. I would have met you at the airport if I had known."

She stops and watches me. I slowly turn around and grin. "Looks like we've been duped."
