You are going to owe me so damn much.
Faye
Expect a grand payment. Love you.
I toss my phone in my purse and head out to where Rowan is waiting in the truck. It’s been three days since we’ve spoken. I didn’t really see any reason to talk and it isn’t like he called me either.
This will be fine. We can just co-exist and get through the next twenty-four hours.
I get in the car, and sitting on the console is the hat, and the man sitting there has a wide grin on his face.
I’m so screwed.

ROWAN
Ishouldn’t be this damn happy to see her, but I am. For the last few days, I’ve focused on the farm and getting things ready to be out of town. We received information from our certifier two days ago that he needed some additional records because we may have been in violation of a pesticide a year ago.
I spent two days searching to make sure that isn’t the case.
However, it took just one look at Charlotte and I feel better.
“Hi,” she says as she puts her bag in the back. “Thanks for the ride.”
Something is off. I can hear it in her voice. “What? No hello kiss?”
She straightens and then focuses extremely hard on putting her seatbelt on. “No.”
All right then. “Got it, back to enemies.”
Charlotte clasps her hands in her lap. “Not enemies, but not whatever the hell we were since the hiking trip either.”
“Sounds good to me,” I say as though I give two shits. Which I don’t. Charlotte and I are nothing more than two people who have fantastic sex.
There aren’t any feelings. Not real ones.
We have sex and we go about our lives.
It was good while it lasted, but it’s over and that’s fine. Now I can go back to focusing on what matters, my farm, my life, and the future expansions I want to make.
“Good. Then we’re both in agreement? You can keep the hat?”
Fuck the hat. I lift it and throw it behind me. “Hat no more.”
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
This is going to be a fucking fantastic two-hour car ride. Someone kill me now.
We get onto the highway and she finally drops her shoulders and looks to me. “This is weird.”
“It doesn’t have to be.”
“No?”
I shake my head. “Not if you don’t want it to be.”
