“Plus, you need this contract and you’re going against him. How about we focus on getting a killer dress and making the money?”
I like that plan. “Deal.”
“And you can borrow my car to get into New York and I’ll get you a hotel.”
I roll my eyes. “Not a chance, but I love you for offering.”
She grumbles something and then walks over to the clearance rack and lifts a dress that is absolutely perfect. “Superpowers for the win!”
I grab my overnight bag, which is stuffed with every possible beauty product I could ever need, and my killer dress that was seventypercent off, which means I took the tags off and don’t need to be insanely careful so I can return it, and then I head downstairs to wait for Faye to get here.
After much hemming and hawing, I accepted her offer to borrow her car. She’s going to spend the night at my place, and I’ll drive back tonight.
Only she’s late.
Like freaking always.
I tap my foot as I look out the window, waiting to see her bright red car, but nothing yet.
I shoot off a text:
Me
Where are you? I needed to leave ten minutes ago.
Faye
I’m sooooooo sorry. I love you, and I promise it’ll be okay.
Oh, that sounds great.
Me
What the hell is going on?
Faye
I got stuck and I can’t get there for another hour, but I called for help
.
Help can onlymean one damn thing.
I look back out the window and sure enough, a large truck is coming, leaving a cloud of dust behind it.
Great.
I have two options. I can refuse this ride and skip the party, probably screwing myself out of the deal I desperately need, or I can go in the truck and control myself.
Me
I hate you.
Faye
I don’t blame you. I did book you a room at the same hotel that Rowan is at. So, you don’t have to worry about trying to control yourself in a room with him. You’re welcome.
