Then he releases me, bringing the walkie-talkie to his mouth. “I copy. Check in tomorrow, and we’ll see if it’s safe to attempt to get back to you.”

Instead of Sawyer’s voice it’s Faye who replies. “I swear, if you do anything to make Charlotte scream, I’ll kill you myself, Rowan. Be nice to her, she’s hurt and needs someone to make her feel better, not worse.”

Oh, Faye, now you’ve gone and done it.

The mischief on his face tells me he’s not going to pass this up. “Rowan, don’t,” I warn, but of course, he’s going to do it.

“I promise, Faye, I’ll be very nice to her and I’m doing everything I can to make her feel better.”

“Good. We’ll talk tomorrow. Save the batteries.”

He releases me and I try to step back, but he comes with me. “Where are you going?” he asks.

“Back to my seat to finish the game.” And to avoid what I’m pretty sure is coming next.

“In the end, we’ll both be naked, and then what did you think would happen when you suggested this?” His voice is even, but the way his jaw ticks tells me he’s not feeling so steady.

“We can’t,” I protest feebly as my ass hits the edge of the table and his arms cage me in. “We shouldn’t.”

He brushes his nose against mine. “I didn’t ask that. What did you think would happen?”

This. I thought we’d end up doing this. Because I want to. Because I’ve already fucked up twice, might as well do it again, right? The harm is done, and we’re stuck here, so . ..

My hands move to his stomach, the muscles tensing beneath my touch as I glide my fingertips down. “When in the cabin and all that?” I ask, my eyes finding his.

“No one will ever know,” he says as our mouths come together, and we make another mistake on the table.

“I’m starving. Can’t you go hunt a deer or something? A deer or a rabbit would be fine,” I ask as my stomach rumbles.

It’s been four days of us out here, freezing, with very little food. We had enough for about five days each, but we’re not sure just how long we’re going to be stuck here and the rations are dwindling.

Last night, we slept together with the fire crackling, racking up the sexy times we’re never going to talk about.

It’s like the dam has been broken, and I find myself naked more than dressed around him.

I still hate him. When we’re not fucking each other’s brains out, he makes me want to stab him, so that hasn’t changed, but he’s fantastic in bed.

Which really sucks because I’m bound to hate him for eternity.

“Yeah, Charlotte, let me go out in the goddamn ice storm with the wind blowing freezing rain at me and find you a deer. I’m right on top of that.”

“Or a rabbit!” I say again.

“You’re right, a rabbit would be so much easier. Why didn’t I think of that? Hmm, I wonder though, do you think they’ll just walk over to me as a sacrifice? Maybe I can do some kind of rabbit calling and explain you’re starving and need it to just lie down so I can roast it on a spit.”

“No need to be sarcastic,” I say, crossing my arms over my chest.

He shakes his head. “I’m starving too, but according to Sawyer, if tomorrow warms up, he’s going to see if he can take the ATV down the mountain and get us the fuck out of here.”

Good. I can’t spend another night like this. We’ve already crossed way too many lines, and none of them are the right ones.

I need to go back to my life, figure out how to get this contract, and get money to save my farm, not fuck around with Rowan out in this horrible cabin.

“I hope it warms up then,” I say and make my way toward the window. The world outside is a shiny mess. The rain has finally stopped, but the cold weather hasn’t done the ground any favors. Last night, a huge tree fell outside, causing both of us to jump. Rowan went out to make sure there was no damage to the cabin. After about ten minutes he came back, soaking wet because he’d fallen three times, and said the shack that was in the back is completely smashed.

“Was there anything in that shed thing out back?”

“You really don’t even want to know what was inside,” he explains.
