“Getting ready for bed,” he explains before pulling his pants down.

“Oh my God!” I turn around, averting my eyes. “You could do that in the bathroom.”

“Why?”

I huff, keeping my back to him as I walk to the other side of the bed. “Because I’m here and I really don’t want to see you naked.”

“I’m done,” he says, and I turn to further scold him, but I find him standing there in just his underwear.

My mouth is open to start my tirade, but the words die in my throat. I have always thought Rowan was hot. Everyone does. However, I did not know this was what was hiding under his clothes.

No wonder my sister cried when she didn’t get to see this anymore.

He’s perfect.

His chest is solid muscle that tapers to his waist and clings to the ridges and valleys of his abs, and his legs are like tree trunks. Yeah, he’s hauled a lot of hay and I am completely tongue tied.

“Like what you see?” Rowan asks, the cockiness pulling me out of my stupor. I roll my eyes, pull the comforter down, and then grab the extra pillows to put them in the middle. “Is this you being an adult?”

“Yes, I need boundaries.”

“I have no intentions of encroaching during the night. I’m not attracted to porcupines.”

I let out a long sigh. “This being nice thing is really going to be hard for you. I’m at leasttryingto be nice.”

“You’re right.” Rowan pulls his side of the sheets back and climbs in. “I’ll be nicer to you since you’re going to try to do the same.”

I pull the covers up, tucking them under my arms. “So a truce of sorts?”

“Of sorts.”

I guess that’s something. “Good night, Rowan.”

“Good night, Charlotte.”

I turn the lights off on my side, and he does the same. Cloaked in darkness, this feels a hundred times worse than it did in the light. I lie still, staring at the ceiling, doing my best to ignore that one of the hottest guys I’ve seen is basically naked in bed with me. However, he’s not just some hot guy, he’s my sister’s ex. The guywho has made my life hell. The man who is currently my competition on the contract I need to save the farm.

All of this is what he is...not a very, very toned and chiseled man.

Rowan rolls over, I can feel the weight and heat of him on the pillow barrier, and I huff.

“I’m not touching.”

“The barrier is supposed to keep you over there,” I say, turning on my side to face him.

“It’s neutral territory. I’m technically not breaking any rules. I thought we were going to be adults?”

I smile, grateful for the darkness keeping him from seeing it. “Give an inch, take a mile?” I ask with a hint of humor.

“Well, I’m practically falling off the bed so I need to take back what space I can. You weren’t very generous in your barrier spacing,” Rowan teases.

“You’re so dramatic,” I tell him with a playful lilt in my tone.

“If that’s not the pot calling the kettle black, I don’t know what is. Scoot over so I can have more room.”

I don’t move, enjoying our normal banter. “I’m on my side.”

His arm moves closer to where I can feel his body heat. “Rowan,” I warn.
