Kimberly smiles. “New York City.”

“I was just there about two weeks ago,” I say, leaning back. “I had a good time.” I guess.

“Really? You don’t seem like a guy who likes the city.”

She has no idea. I fucking hate it. I’ve lived in small towns my whole life and after spending a day in New York, I wanted to lock myself in a quiet room for days. However, Kimberly seems like she loves it.

“Maybe you can sell me on its merits,” I offer her a chance.

Kimberly launches into all the reasons she loves it. The food. The smells and sounds. How you can turn in any direction and find something new. Her entire face lights up as she talks about the city.

While in no way am I sold on it, I can see why she loves it so much.

“Well, I think I’m just a country boy at heart.”

She leans forward, running her tongue across her lips. “And what’s different about a country boy?”

“Lots of things.”

“Your turn to sell me on it.” Kimberly grins.

I chuckle and, again, my eyes find Charlotte, who is sitting on the table, throwing back another shot.

Not my problem. Not my issue. Not my concern.

Instead of worrying about someone who I don’t give a shit about, I turn to Kimberly and explain a bit of my life. I explain how there are no sounds at night other than the crickets or the creek. The food here is decent—for a small town. All the things I love and it’s the total opposite of everything she explained.

“You know, even though we’re opposite, we have a lot in common.” Kimberly grins and pulls her lower lip between her teeth.

“We do?”

She nods. “We’re passionate, and while I’ve never been into the country life, maybe I just haven’t found the right guy to show me all the...perks.”

Seems I’m getting lucky tonight.

I grin. “There are a lot of perks.”

“Really? Like what?”

I nod. “We have no problem doing whatever has to be done to make others happy.”

Kimberly’s eyes flash with heat. Yeah, I’m so getting laid.

“And what exactly has to be done that you’re so willing to do?”

“Well,” I say, moving toward her. “For one, we don’t mind getting dirty.”

“Dirty, you say?”

“Very.”

I hear a loud female voice laugh and recognize it immediately. My eyes move to where Charlotte is standing against the wall and the guy who is caging her in.

Faye is dancing with the other friend, not paying attention. I look back to Kimberly, smiling, and then glance back at Charlotte for some stupid reason. This time, the guy is dipping his head into her neck. She tries to push him away, but he leans harder into her.

Not my circus. Not my monkey.

Kimberly’s finger moves up and down my arm as she pulls her lip into her mouth for a second. “You know, I have this really big suite a town over at this fancy hotel.”
