“Good to know,” Rowan tosses back. “All right, birthday girl, what’s next?”
I can’t remember the last time that I’ve ever felt so free. Even if it’s just for today, it’s amazing and I’m loving every second of being with him.
“Food?”
“Are you asking or telling me?”
“Telling,” I say with a nod.
“Okay, do you want to go out? We can go to the diner or I can call up to Summit Views and see if we can get a table.”
My stomach instantly clenches because that would truly be letting our relationship out in the open.
“Do you think we should tell our family and friends about us before we go out on a date?”
Rowan dismounts from his horse, walking to me, his hand rests on my leg. “I don’t care what anyone says, Charlotte. I’m with you, and I’m not going anywhere, but...yeah, we should. Your sister especially.”
“I just don’t want her to find out from anyone else.”
“I get it.”
Although, we all know how this is going to go over. She’s going to lose her ever-loving mind.
I rest my hand on his cheek. “Do you know what I want?”
“Me?”
I roll my eyes. “Sure, but I mean next.”
“What’s that, baby?”
My grin is wide. “To beat you back to the stables.” I kick Monty, leaving him behind, loving that I know he’ll chase me.
“Favorite color?” I ask Rowan.
We’re sitting on the floor, I’m wearing his T-shirt and he’s just in his boxers. We’ve had sex twice more, both our normal, frantic, and incredibly hot ways. He took me in the barn when he finally caught up to me, pushing me into a stall and using a lead rope to tie my hands above my head. Then we had dinner and he decided I should be dessert.
Both were magnificent.
Now a movie is on, and we’re ignoring it, playing a series of quick questions.
“Yellow.”
“Really?” That surprises me.
“Yeah, it was my mom’s favorite. She had yellow everywhere in our house.”
I lean forward and give him a quick kiss. “That’s cute.”
My phone rings, but Rowan snatches it, putting it behind him.
“Hey!” I protest.
“No phones. It’s my time with you.”
Normally, I’d bite back, saying something about taking a girl’s phone away, but it’s cute and sweet, and honestly, there’s not a person alive I want to talk to right now.
“Fine, but you know Faye is going to call, and if I miss more than two, she’ll send a search party.”
