Brynn rocks back on her heels. “Oh. Good.”
“Now, can you watch Jett?”
She rests her hand on my chest. “Of course. Go show her the man you are and give her every reason to stay. No matter how much it scares you.”
“I’m not scared.”
“If you say so.”
I chuckle and take a step back. “Thank you, Brynn.”
“Go.”
I turn, head to the barn, and saddle up Brutus. I stand in front of him, petting his neck. “I need you to behave and take me to Addison. I’m taking a huge risk and I could really use your help, big guy.” He raises his nose and drops it. I take it as a yes. “All right.”
I grab the horn, step in the stirrup, and mount. Brutus shuffles a bit and then I kick my feet and we head to her.
This is pretty much my plan.
Show up.
Tell her that my feelings for her are more than I admitted, and see where we go.
I can’t leave here. I can’t beg her to stay.
So, I’m not really sure where the hell that leaves us, but...I’ll figure out something.
I make my way to her barn that isn’t used, but there’s a stall I can leave Brutus in for the night. Again, didn’t really think this through.
I left my phone at my sister’s house, which means I can’t call or text. There’s no way I’m ringing the doorbell, and I have her spare key still, so back door it is. I also have to avoid a nosey neighbor who probably has a night vision camera on her house.
The back door is locked and the downstairs level is dark.
Great.
Well, it is past midnight.
There’s one light on off the side of the house, which is her window. “Addison!” I whisper and then wait.
She’s never going to hear me. I’m really starting to doubt my brilliant idea here.
I need to get her attention.
Pebbles. That’s what I need.
I look around, grabbing a few that won’t damage a window, and start tossing them.
First one goes, hits the side of the house. Awesome.
Second one hits the wrong window.
Third finally hits the window. “Ha!”
I throw another. Miss again. This is ridiculous. I grab a handful of small pebbles and toss them all, chances are I’ll hit the window.
Sure enough, a bunch of pebbles land and the curtain is pulled back. There she stands with the light behind her, like a goddamn angel.
The window slides up and she pops her head out. “Grady?”
