Addison is a friend who is doing me a solid. I don’t want a relationship. I don’t want complications in my life because I have enough of those.
“And then you ruin it.”
“It was entertaining,” I remind her.
“It was.”
I glance around the restaurant and spot him. “Do you see the man six tables over?” I ask.
Addison nods when she sees it. “Mateo and Lily Kopaskey?”
“You know them?”
She tilts her head with her lips pursed. “Duh. Everyone knows them. They’re big investors in Run to Me. Their oldest daughter had issues when she was seventeen and they were very generous to help get our location up and running.”
This is freaking perfect. “I seriously didn’t think I could like you more, and then you go and surprise me.”
“Why?”
“Mr. Kopaskey is debating on investing in my company. We’d buy the plane and he’d get all the perks of flights and a pilot on standby while I use it during certain times for lessons. He wants to know me better and have me attend a few events before he makes his decision.”
“Lily loves parties and throws them monthly.”
“Which is where you come in,” I tell her.
Addison smiles. “Date for hire.”
The way she says it makes me feel like a dick. “You also get the same for the wedding,” I remind her.
“I know. It’s totally fine. I know them both well.”
“Good. He’s the only one who called me back and said he wanted to discuss it more. I could always go back to the others, but say what? Hi, I have someone now?”
Addison pulls her lower lip between her teeth. “It would probably come off as desperate. Does the first investor know Mateo at all? Like I said, they throw a ton of parties, usually at the country club, and they’re always huge. People fly in from all over on their private...” She trails off and I sit here with a smile.
“Planes.”
“So you want to have the plane for many options.”
I nod. “I can do my courier stuff now because it’s decent pay. The plane I use is small, and honestly works perfectly for that, but I can’t escort people around. All I could do is skydiving because most would want to jump out of it.”
Addison laughs. “That’s a mental image.”
“I want something I can do more with. Being a pilot isn’t as lucrative as many think, but there are ways to really earn more. One is doing both commercial and private flights. We would be able to have a plane at the ready where they pay a premium for the flight crew.” She has this glazed look on her face, which causes me to chuckle. “I just want to offer a service that makes sense in an area that doesn’t have it. As Sugarloaf becomes more of a destination with skiing and some of the things I heard about in the planning meetings, it just would be the right time.”
“Then I’m here to help. One fake girlfriend at your service.”
I can’t help the smile that forms on my lips. She’s so freaking cute sometimes.
The same waiter she had last time comes over, saving me from saying something stupid. He looks to her and then to me. “Well played. Hopefully you are a better companion than the last,” he says with his thick French accent.
Addison laughs and covers it with a cough.
“I’m glad you approve,” I say to him.
“We’ll see if I do by the end.”
I look to Addy to say something, but she just smiles.
