Holden grabs his wallet and removes a condom. He smiles at me before tearing it open. “Again, not presumptuous, just hopeful this would happen.”
“I call it prepared.” I smile and kiss him as he rolls it on.
He guides my hips, moving me right where we will fit. I want to remember everything about this night. Our eyes meet, and I refuse to blink as I sink down onto him. He fills me slowly as I adjust to the invasion, and only once my body is flush against his does he release his grip on my hips and move to cradle my face between his palms. Then the whole world seems to pause as we stare at each other—two halves becoming one.
We make love. That’s the only word I can use to describe it. It’s not a fuck, we’ve done that. It’s not sex, we’ve done that too. This is more—it’s everything. It’s emotions and trust swirled into what words cannot say, so we use our bodies. I want him to be as overwhelmed as I am because it’s both scary and glorious.
To be truly and properly adored like this is more than I knew was possible.
Neither of us say a word, almost as though we’re afraid to break the spell we’re under. There is no one else in this world but us right now. It’s as though the space around us blurred and all that connects us to reality is each other.
Holden moves his hips faster, riding me from the bottom. My hands are on his chest, and once again, I am chasing an orgasm.
My breathing is labored, head swimming as I can feel a wave cresting, ready to take my feet out from under me.
“Holden.” I breathe his name, unable to hold back.
“I’m close, Sophie. I’m so close, I need you.”
I close my eyes, letting go of everything in my head, doing nothing but feeling the immense pleasure of making love.
Then the orgasm crashes through me. My arms give out, and I fall against his chest. Holden’s hands hold me in place, and he pushes deep two more times before he follows me over.
We lie here, both panting and sticky with sweat as he trails his fingers up and down my spine. After a second, I roll to the side, staring up at the ceiling.
“That was . . .”
I turn my head to see his beautiful face and say, “Everything.”
He kisses my nose. “Everything. I’m going to clean up and grab us a snack. Stay right here.”
When he leaves, wearing nothing but his jeans, I do the most girly thing I’ve ever done and squeal to myself, kicking my feet. That was amazing, and I am so ready to do it again.
ChapterTwenty-Seven
HOLDEN
Ihead into the kitchen, needing sustenance after that bout. Next time, I’m going for a triple-orgasm night.
I grab the cookies as well as the bag of M&M’s I keep stashed in the cabinet. They have peanuts in them, so it’s protein. Then, because life is about balance, I swipe a banana for Sophie.
As I’m walking through the living room, I stop dead in my tracks. Theo’s medical record, which was absolutely in my bedroom, is out on the table—open.
If Sophie had seen it, she would’ve said something. There’s no way she did this or knows about it. I look around to see if there’s anything else out of place, but it doesn’t look like it. Still, the hair on the back of my neck is raised.
I put down my contraband, close the folder, and put it in the file cabinet. I’ll deal with telling her about that later. The last thing I want is to keep secrets from her, but I’d at least like to have some idea of what to say.
In the meantime, I walk around the house, not noticing anything else out of place. The doors are all locked and windows shut, so if someone had been in the house, I don’t see how they got in. The only people with a key are Mama James, Emmett, and Spencer. I can’t imagine any of them rummaging through my shit without asking, so I contemplate how the file ended up on the table as I grab the food and head to Sophie.
She’s in bed with the sheets up around her, and she’s writing in a book. “Are you telling your diary about the mind-blowing sex we had?”
She looks up with a sly smile. “Maybe.”
I walk over to what would be my side of the bed and dump the spoils of my snack raid.
“I thought we were eating healthy?” she asks, looking at the goods.
“With Eden, we are. Plus, I brought a banana.” I lift it up, and she rolls her eyes.
