I laugh because it’s true.

When his hand emerges, there is a huge ring between his thumb and pointer finger. “Devney Maxwell, you are the only woman I would ever give a ring to. You’re the beginning, middle, and I hope you’ll be there until the very end. I want to love you, raise kids with you, and spend every day making you happy. Will you do me the incredible honor and let me be your husband?”

A tear slides down my cheek as I take in the moment. I want to remember it always because it’s when my world made perfect sense. “Yes. Yes! I will marry you! Here! Today?”

Sean hoists me into his arms, pushes me back against the car, and fuses his lips to mine. After what could be minutes or even hours, he stops and looks at me. “Not today, sweetheart, but in five days, our families will arrive, and then, yes, you will be my wife.”

I take his face in my hands and kiss him again. “I love you.”

“I love you. Now, get in the car so I can get you to the room.”

I smirk and tap his nose. “Yes,sir.”

Epilogue

Sean

“You’re getting married. Jesus, you’re all fools,” Jacob says as he fixes my bow tie.

“You say we’re fools, but I say you’re the fool.”

“Maybe so, but . . . I don’t know, man.”

There is no doubt in my mind that this is the right thing. She’s the right one. The only one. I have never been this happy or as sure of anything in my life. Well, other than baseball. My brothers, their families, Devney’s parents, and Austin arrived last night. We had a very loud, very boisterous dinner together and prepared for today.

It’s going to be a small wedding, but everyone who matters is here.

Ellie and Sydney are with Devney and the boys and I are all here, waiting for the wedding planner to let us know it’s time.

Sydney is standing up for her, and Jacob is my best man. Picking between my brothers wasn’t easy, but Jacob just felt right. Plus, it might be the closest that man gets to an altar.

“You won’t question it if she’s the right girl, you know?” I ask.

“Maybe. I just haven’t found her yet.”

“No, but you might.”

He laughs. “I’m busy as hell. I live a pretty odd life. What woman wants to have her day invaded by cameras when she goes to the grocery store? It just is not what I would ever sign up for.”

“You did sign up for it.”

“Yeah, yeah. But I’m not a woman. They’re odd creatures who want weird things.”

Sometimes, I think he just wants to be alone. “Like love, security, and family?”

Jacob shrugs. “Exactly, all shit that I can’t provide.”

He’s wrong, but telling him that isn’t worth it. “Did you get the tiny house set up?” I ask him.

“I did, such a bunch of bullshit. I don’t know why I can’t just stay in your place.”

“Well, first off, I’m about to be a newlywed and don’t need my pain-in-the-ass brother in my house. Second, because we all had to do it, and third, I just don’t like you enough to care if you’re miserable.”

“Whatever.”

He’s a freaking baby. “What are you planning to do in Sugarloaf while you’re there?”

“I don’t know. I met Brenna Allen two days ago.”
