I lean back in my seat, indignant that I really don’t have anything to be upset about. He thought of everything—as usual.

“I’m calm.”

“And you’ve ruined the surprise.”

“Were you driving to where we’re going for eleven days?”

He huffs. “No.”

“Then I didn’t really ruin anything since, even with the blindfold on, I knew I was in a car.”

Sean keeps riding down the highway without replying. We pull into the small airport, and excitement hits me. Wherever we are going, it involves another trip on a private plane. I am really going to have a hard time ever flying commercial again if he keeps this up.

I rack my brain, trying to figure out if I’ve ever mentioned somewhere I’d like to go, but there have been so many dreams shared between us. Like, I know that one of his bucket list places is to go to Ireland to see where his grandmother was born. And the Maldives, which is pretty much on everyone’s bucket list. I know we won’t do either of those because of the flight time, so it has to be somewhere reasonable.

After popping the trunk, he makes his way to my side of the car, opens my door, and extends a hand. “My love.”

I smile and place my palm in his. “Kind sir.”

When I get upright, he gives me a sweet kiss. “You can call me sir later.”

“If you deserve it.”

“Oh, I think I’m going to more than earn it.”

“Yeah?” I taunt.

“Oh, yes.”

I tap his nose and wink. “We shall see.”

We board the plane and get up in the air without my finding out where we’re off to. There’s a part of me that doesn’t care because we’re going on a trip—alone. I wouldn’t give a shit if we just circled in the sky. Sean pulls me to the couch so that my back is to his chest and his arms are holding me close. He’s quiet, seeming to be lost in whatever is on his mind.

Neither of us speak much, just enjoying the silence. It’s one of the things I love most about us. There isn’t a need to fill the void because we’re just comfortable together.

One of the pilots exits the cockpit and heads our way, and I smile when I recognize him from the last time I was on this plane. “We’ll be making our descent in about thirty minutes.”

“Great, Sam, thank you.”

“It’s my pleasure.”

“Sam?” I call out.

“Yes, Ms. Maxwell?”

“Where exactly are we arriving at?”

He smiles, looks over at Sean, and then shrugs. “I’m not sure, ma’am, I’m only the second in command.”

“Traitor.”

Sean laughs. “Sweetheart, I knew you’d try to ask the flight crew, so I tipped them to ensure you were kept in the dark.”

I grumble under my breath and hate that it’s nighttime and I can’t look out the window and try to guess where we are.

Another few minutes, and I’ll figure it out.

We land, and when we deplane, the warm air hitting me has a smile tugging at my lips. “It’s hot here.”
