“He is.”
“Good. You guys talk more?”
I nod and make my way toward the bed. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do. Our fight earlier left things in a very strange place. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t know what to say to fix things between us.
Sean sighs and pats the bed. “I don’t want to make tonight any harder on us.”
“I don’t either.”
“Then just let me love you, Devney.”
God, that sounds good. “I need you to hold me,” I tell him.
He puts the phone on the table beside him and lifts the covers. I don’t hesitate before climbing in. My body gravitates toward him like a magnet, needing the person who is my other half. I lie on his chest, listening to the sound of his heart as his hand travels up and down the length of my spine.
Words aren’t needed for us to know how the other is feeling. I can taste the relief and also the sadness of all that happened and all that is yet to come.
“Sean?”
“Yes?”
I run my hand across his stomach and pull myself tighter. “Thank you for finding him and bringing him back.”
“I would’ve searched the world if that was what it took.”
There’s nothing this man wouldn’t do for me, and I’m a fool for even thinking of letting him go.
“Can we rehash all of this when we get back to Sugarloaf and just have tonight for us?”
Sean shifts, and I’m forced to look into his eyes. “Not another word, Dev. I’ve got you for tonight. Just trust me.”
I trust him with my life.
His hands move to my face, cupping me as though I’m breakable. The tenderness he uses warms me to the tips of my toes. Sean would never hurt me. He’d break himself in half before ever allowing me to be the victim.
I watch the myriad of emotions dance through his eyes. Love, hope, sadness, fear, and then desire.
Oh, the desire is strongest, and he pulls me to him at the same moment I move toward him. Wanting him has never been an issue.
It’s keeping him.
I won’t allow my thoughts to wander there because he’s mine right now, and I’ll always be his.
Sean’s lips move to mine in the sweetest kiss. There’s heartbreak and longing mixed with love, and I cling to the last. Tonight, I will love him like there is no tomorrow. As though our days like this are everlasting and we don’t ever have to say goodbye.
We kiss slowly, letting our tongues glide together as one kiss turns into another. His hand moves into my hair, tilting my head so he can get a better angle. Kissing him is like that first breath of air in the morning. It’s filled with hope that the day can be great and ushers in the feeling of peace that washes over you. I want to kiss him forever, allow myself the serenity that comes from being in his arms.
“I love you,” he whispers against my cheek. “I love you, and I am going to make love to you tonight.”
I lean my head back and let out a soft groan when his lips move to my neck.
“You’re so beautiful. I could do nothing but look at you all day and find something new that I find perfect.”
“I’m not perfect.”
“You are for me.”
His mouth covers mine, stopping the words that were going to escape my lips. He’s the one who’s perfect.
