He releases me and then pulls each of the other girls into a hug. This Christmas is now complete. All the brothers are together, and the family is under one roof. I know it isn’t my family, but they’ve always sort of felt that way. Our lives were intertwined at a young age and since they’re so close in age, it felt like a pack.

I’ve missed my pack.

“Now, I want to see my nieces and nephew, spoil them rotten, and make sure I’m the favorite.”

And some things never change.

Chapter Thirty-Five

Sean

“So, you’re going to be in Florida, but I still have to sleep in the fucking tiny shed in the woods?”

Declan laughs and lifts his bottle to me. “It’s now a rite of passage.”

“The fuck it is.”

“You’re supposed to be some big, strong, superhero dude. You can’t handle living in a box with very little warmth?” I ask.

Jacob flips me off. “You’re not going to be home!”

“That doesn’t mean I want you invading my space.”

He huffs and looks to Connor for help, but he just shrugs. “Seriously? Not even you’ll side with me. Wait!” Jacob claps. “Connor never had to sleep in it.”

“I also had to repair the main house, which was a hundred times worse than the tiny house when I first got there. So, yeah, the luxury that you assholes are enjoying is compliments of me.”

Connor does have a point.

“Whatever, this is some bullshit.”

“Be mad, brother, but you’re not staying with Sydney and me,” Dec adds just to dig the knife in a bit deeper.

“I have a newborn and a wife whose mood changes very rapidly,” Connor says with a grin.

“And I just don’t want you in the house.” I really have no good reason other than to piss him off.

Jacob flops down onto the couch. “I hate you all.”

Ellie enters the room holding Bethanne. “Are you boys going to help with dinner or just let the women around you do it all?”

“I offered to help, but Connor said you didn’t need any.” I speak first.

If looks could kill, my brother would have me filleted like a fish.

“Well.” She glares at him. “You can finish cooking for us.”

He gets up and kisses her on the cheek. “You know I would never say that.”

She smiles up at him. “I do, but you’re still going to help.”

They share a look that makes my heart actually fucking ache. They love each other so much that nothing could ever stand between them—not distance, time, another person, or an obstacle. They love each other enough to figure things out, even when they seem insurmountable.

I feel that way.

I would battle a hundred men if that was what it took to keep Devney.

Ellie touches my arm. “What’s wrong?”
