My hand moves up her back, and I grab the zipper, slowly sliding it down so that the noise echoes in the room.

I love that she doesn’t try to stop me. Her fingers glide across my skin and then her lips touch mine. I kiss her softly, teasing her and enjoying the soft sounds that escape. Ashton isn’t going to take it lying down, though, she never does. My girl likes to give as much as she takes. Her tongue brushes against mine before she retreats, causing me to growl and surge forward.

There is nothing sexier than a woman who isn’t afraid to use her power. Her fingers grip the back of my neck, hauling herself closer to me. I push the fabric of her dress down, leaving her standing in heels and her underwear.

I take a step back to look at her. I drink her in, each drop giving me the will to live. She has no idea how much I need her to breathe.

My mouth opens to ask her right now. I want to bare my soul to her, but she deserves better.

Her head tilts to the side. “What’s wrong?”

“You take my breath away.”

Ashton takes a step closer, and her hands touch my skin, branding me even more than I already am. Her deep blue eyes bore into mine, and I swear I can see myself reflected inside her. She’s feeling just as much in this moment.

“Marry me,” she says, causing me to freeze.

“What?”

I’m pretty sure she stole my line.

“I want to marry you.”

At least that clears up any questions I had about whether tonight was the right night.

“Did Liam call you?”

“Liam?”

I shake my head. “I was . . . I was planning to ask you tonight. It’s why we were going to dinner and then I had a few surprises planned.”

Her lips turn up into the most stunning smile. “You were?”

I laugh and pull her into my arms. “I was. See, I have this problem that I was hoping you could help me with.”

“What might that be?”

“I’m hopelessly in love with you and can’t seem to imagine a life without you in it.”

“Hmm, that does seem like a problem,” Ashton says while running her fingers along the back of my neck. “I might have a solution.”

“Does it involve you agreeing to be my wife?”

“That could be a start.”

I release her and walk over to the drawer that has the same diamond ring I gave her once.

“Ashton Caputo, I planned to do this a lot more dignified than you in your underwear and me in gym clothes, but then that wouldn’t really be us, would it? We’re sort of messy, a lot of fire, and the most unconventional couple. With you by my side, I find it impossible to care about any of it because you make it perfect.” I take her hand, rubbing my thumb along the top, and drop to one knee. “I never really asked you the last time I proposed. I was afraid of what the answer would be, but I’m not scared now. So, myfragolina, will you marry me?”

She bends down, taking my face in her hands as her tears fall. “Yes, yes, yes, my amazingly wonderful man who I will never let go of again.”

“Promise?” I ask as I wipe the tears that rest on her cheek.

“I love you so much.”

I pull her down to the floor as she giggles, but I catch her as she falls, the way I always will. “I love you more than anything in the world.”

“Yeah? Prove it.”
