I might just punch a bitch. My hand clenches into a fist, and I start to count, hoping to calm myself so I don’t end up in cuffstoday.
Finn stands and throws his bag to the floor, making a loudthumpand breaking me from my anger. “I hate her! Everything is changing, and you don’t even care!” he yells atScott.
“Buddy.” Scott steps forward, but Finn kicks the bag, shocking usall.
I’ve never seen him act like this. He’s the silent one who lets his feelingsfester.
“No! You don’t. You’re marrying her and having a new baby! What about Aubrey and me? You don’t love us because you loveher!”
“Finn!” Scott calls, but my son is already running to hisroom.
A lot of information was said, and I want to process it all, but my heart is in mythroat.
“Pregnant?” I look at themboth.
“She’s fourmonths.”
It doesn’t take me long to do the math. There’s no denying anything about their relationshipanymore.
“Four months ago, we were still married. He’s not stupid, and he is in no way ready to have you remarried and have a new sibling. No wonder he’spissed.”
Scott looks at Noah and back to me. “Yeah, it’s all my fault. Could have nothing to do with finding his mother with a newguy.”
I want to beat him with his own arms. As far as Finn knows, Noah is a friend. This is ridiculous, and he knows it. I can’t believe he’d do this to ourkids.
“That must be it. It couldn’t be that he found out that you’re having a baby, getting married, and clearly something was said to him aboutit.”
“We handled things in our home the way we chose.” Jillian rolls her eyes. “It’s obvious where he gets his dramaticsfrom.”
I move forward, but Noah grabs my arm before I can do anything stupid. My breathing is labored, and the sound of my heart is deafening. I can’t believe he’d do this to the kids. For everything that’s awful about him, he’s loved them. I might have been expendable, but I never thought our kids wouldbe.
Everything I hoped for to keep things civil isgone.
“This is afamilymatter. It’s not about you or your time, it’s about ourson,” I say through gritted teeth. “Nothing else matters but him, and you’re unbelievable to be so selfish not to see this would hurt a ten-year-oldboy.”
“I’mselfish?”
Scott turns to her. “Go to the car,Jill.”
“Excuse me?” Her jawdrops.
“Go wait in the car,” he demands. “Kristin’sright.”
My eyebrows shoot up. There is no way I heard himright.
“You’re taking her side? Are youkidding?”
He pinches the bridge of his nose. I know that look all too well—she’s about to see Scott in all his glory. That was my cue to stop whatever it was I was doing or saying or I’d have to listen to an hour-long speech of all the things I do wrong. “Shut up.” He pulls his arm out of her grasp. “This isn’t about you or her, it’s about myson. Now, go to thecar.”
She shoves his arm and stomps away like a toddler who didn’t get their way. Scott runs his hands down hisface.
“I’ll give you guys space,” Noahoffers.
I want to cry. How can this man still be here. He has to see the insanity of my life. There’s no denying that this divorce is a fucking mess. Our marriage may be over, but our lives are intertwined. I wouldn’t blame him if he ran far andfast.
Hell, I’d like to run rightnow.
There’s so much I want to say, but when I open my mouth, Noah touches my arm. He tilts his head to where Finn ran off to. “Go. He’s what’s important. I’llwait.”
