“Of course,” I said hurriedly. Not being attracted to her was good. Nothing to distract me from my plan. “I would be honored to be accepted into the family.”
It was a miracle that came out without gagging. The others bought it. I was in, already so much further than I could have dreamed.
“What are we doing, just sitting here staring at one another?” Matvey asked, clapping his hands and calling for vodka. “Let’s celebrate.”
Lilia hurried to the polished walnut bar for a bottle, and quiet Rurik opened it and poured a glass for each of us. We all held them out and clinked, the clear liquid spilling over our hands.
“To family,” Nikolai said seriously before knocking his back.
