Or whatever it was.
God, he smelled good.
Noooope. Moving on!
She stepped into the airport and scanned the area for Nessa and Lucky. Of course they were all cozied up near an empty flight kiosk, not a care in the world. They were the cutest couple in the history of cute couples, but right now that fact sent a spike of annoyance through Kelsey’s chest. No one should be so happy when Kelsey had just been forced to endure five hours next to her childhood nemesis. Not even Nessa, who always deserved to be happy.
“Let’s go,” Kelsey announced as she passed them.
“Kelsey, oh my gosh,” Nessa said, hurrying to keep up with Kelsey’s breakneck pace. “You sat next to Alexander the whole time?”
Tight-lipped, Kelsey gave a curt nod. “Mhm.”
“Well…?”
“Wellwhat?” She side-eyed Nessa. “The man is infuriating.”
Nessa didn’t respond, but Kelsey could sense her staring from the corner of her eye.
“What?” She glanced sideways at Nessa.
Nessa grinned. “Nothing.”
Kelsey paused, looking behind them for Alexander, then she met Nessa’s gaze full on. “Why are you smiling?”
Nessa’s eyes widened playfully. “You like him.”
Kelsey’s mouth dropped open. “No, I definitely do not. I loathe him.”
“Okay.” Nessa nodded as she resumed walking. The three of them stepped onto the people mover. After a few moments, Nessa said, “Oh, hey, remember that catering manager you worked with for that series of fundraisers out in the valley?”
Kelsey ran her tongue over her teeth.
“What was his name…?” Nessa looked back over her shoulder and flashed a smile. “Marcus.”
“Stop it.” Kelsey groaned.
“You hated him.”
“Yes. He was a prick.”
Nessa stepped off the conveyor belt, then stopped abruptly, turned around, and pointed two finger guns at Kelsey. “And how long did it take for you to sleep with him?”
Lucky snorted, but Kelsey shot him a glare.
“Well?” Nessa nudged. “How long?”
It had taken her two back-to-back events and alotof heated arguments. The guy really was an asshole.
And so was Nessa. Because she had a point. Kelsey had a weakness for asshole men. The cockier the better. A good hate-fuck was right up there with bottomless mimosas and Ben & Jerry’s
Goddammit.
She shook her head, glaring. “I hate you, Pompeo.”
Nessa’s eyes widened. “Kelsey, please, I’m with Lucky. I will not sleep with you no matter how much you flirt with me.”
Kelsey watched her walk ahead, any retort getting more pathetic the farther Nessa walked away from the conversation.
Lucky followed Ness, walking backwards, his eyes on Kelsey. He raised his hands in the air. “You know what they say about that, right?”
“About what?” Kelsey hurried to catch up.
“It’s a thinnnnn liiiiiine,” Lucky began singing loudly. “Between looooove and—oof.”
Kelsey punched him lightly in the gut. “I’m going to murder you both.”
Lucky laughed as he raised his hands to motion to the crowd of travelers around them. “Wow, in front of all these witnesses, Kels? Ballsy.”
