“Jax?” she breathed.

I nodded and pulled the ring out. “I wanted his opinion.” I laughed. “We’ve got a smart kid. He wanted me to buy four and have you pick your favorite.” I held it between my fingers. “And just as I was considering it, he said, I hope she picks this one.”

“It’s beautiful.” Her eyes welled and I lifted her hand.

“I don’t want to just live with you Ray, I want you to be mine forever. I want a life with you, a family. To show each other what neither of us had ever really known but know what it should be like. I want to be your husband.” Since there was no sign of protest, I slipped the three-carat diamond on her finger. “I waited. Probably too long, but it was worth it because the moment you promised to be mine forever, I didn’t want you to have one doubt in your mind that I was the man for you. And for Jax. And for any other children we have together.”

Ocean-blue watery eyes looked back at me. “I love you.”

“Is that a yes?”

She nodded and threw her arms around me. “It’s a yes.” Her words were muffled somewhere in my neck when I lifted her and held her for a moment before carrying her to our bedroom.

“Wha—”

“Babe, they’ve got a brand-new sled downstairs. Trust me, they’re not coming back for a while.”

“In that case…” She bit her lip and glanced behind us. “The fireplace. I’ve always wanted to.”

My eyes blazed and I turned us, murmuring against her ear. “Well who am I to keep you from having everything you want?”
