‘I’m romantic, you asshole. You think I’d have opened the door if she was?’ I ask, rolling my eyes, dropping back onto my couch and grabbing the remote. ‘Can a man not even daydream about a woman alone in his apartment any more?’
Aaron’s eyes move to the TV, but he looks back with a single eyebrow raised.
‘I’m not watching porn, you perv.’
I throw the remote at him, which he catches single-handedly. I know what he’s thinking because his mind’s usually only got one channel.
‘We saw you kiss her,’ he confesses.
‘Not sure how you saw anything through the steam on your windows,’ I say, rolling my eyes. ‘Do you even know what movie we watched?’
‘No clue,’ he grins mischievously. ‘Was it good?’
‘Don’t know,’ I laugh. ‘My mind was elsewhere.’
‘Ooohhh. Where was your mind? Fess up, you liar.’
‘There’s nothing to fess up because it’s not a secret. Yes, we talked and we kissed, while we were sitting in a car full of windows. I sort of figured someone would see considering what we saw you doing?—’
His jaw drops. ‘I thought the windows were fogged?’
‘Not enough.’
‘Well, consider it a free lesson in the art of lovemaking.’
‘Gross.’
‘Come on, details, boy. How was it?’ he pries, sitting next to me, well and truly interested.
‘Soul-spinning,’ I reply with a nonchalant shrug, trying to play it cool. But inside, my heart is still racing, and my mind is reeling from the moment’s intensity. Kissing Lucy was unlike anything I’ve experienced before – electrifying, passionate and filled with an undeniable connection.
‘Soul-spinning?’ he repeats, his voice tight. ‘That’s girly. Did your heart do cartwheels, too?’
‘It did, actually. Does Madi do that to you?’
‘Not when she kisses my lips,’ he says.
‘Ugh, you have a way of ruining the moment,’ I groan. ‘Why’d you come over anyway?’
‘Because you’re my lonely brother who can’t find a good woman, and I need to hear all the juicy details,’ he says with a cheeky grin. ‘Plus, I wanted to make sure you were still alive. For some guys, sudden hard-ons after not having one in a while will kill them. So, tell me, was it like riding a bike? Did you still know what to do?’
‘No hard-ons were involved. It was sweet. Heartfelt. Intense. Yet completely unexpected, you know? It just felt right.’ I admit, resting a hand on the back of my neck. ‘One minute we were talking, and the next?—’
‘Boom, fireworks?’ he interrupts, waggling his eyebrows.
‘Supernova,’ I correct him, a smile tugging at the corners of my lips. ‘I never knew a kiss could feel so… perfect.’
‘You experience a supernova, and you end it with just a kiss?’ he asks, his eyes widening in disbelief. ‘You should have invited her back here to show her all your moves. What’s the matter with you?’
‘I’m not you. We’ve still got things to work through. And that’s OK because I’m perfectly happy where we are. Holding off will just make it better.’
‘Boo,’ he groans, crossing his arms over his chest.
‘Boo all ya want, because she didn’t, and her opinion is the one I care about. I guess I’m just more of a romantic than you.’
‘Pfffft, I’m hella romantic.’
‘Please,’ I chuckle, shaking my head. ‘You’re about as romantic as a rock. What you are is hella horny with commitment issues,’ I tease. ‘But you sleeping with the same woman for multiple weeks is giving me hope.’
