‘What’s wrong?’
‘The website!’
Henry pulls his laptop from his bag, pulling up multiple browser windows, one being my website, and logging in as quickly as he can. He starts to laugh as he scrolls through different pages.
‘Did it?’ I ask, wondering if Claire is messing with me. Surely it hasn’t actually gone viral? I’ve never had an article go viral.
‘Over four million hits in the last hour. It’s even made TMZ’s site. You did it, Ambri, you went viral.’
I stare down at the screen with a laugh. ‘Wewent viral. Which, I guess, is not a bad way for us to start off, huh?’ I wink over at him, knowing that it wasn’t just me that did it.Wedid it. We blew PDX Weekly out of the water, exactly like I said I would, and Henry was a huge part of that. Without him, well… I don’t even want to think about what that would be like right now.
He tosses his laptop on the extra bed, leaning over me, kissing me so intensely that I can barely breathe through the storm of butterflies in my chest. ‘It’s a great way to start, but I say we can make it even better…’
Yeah, like I’m gonna say no to the guy I’ve dreamed of for years.
I never expected to have my life truly start at twenty-seven with my best friend as the love of my life by my side. But it did, and I couldn’t ask for a better way to start a new chapter than with him. He’s perfect. We may have our demons but they’re the same ones and it’s easier to fight when I’ve got someone on my side who’s done it before.
Sometimes life takes you for a ride you’re not sure you’re ready for. Either you buckle up and make it through, or you give up and let life run you over. I’m now happily buckled in, and turns out fate seems to be on my side this time.
