Someone Leontine’s parents took in when he was a teenager, fucking raised him.Vigilante justice turned into violently killing people. In his eyes he was still doing his job, all while he didn’t bring people to justice; he took the role of executioner.

“In the end they will all be brought to justice,” Archer grimly states and turns to me.“Take your old lady to your room. We’re gonna do a little more digging and I’ll come find you in a few hours.”

Bee checks her phone.“Oh, and by then Lynn will be here too.”

“The fuck?”Archer grunts.

Bee shrugs.“She somehow found out Pax and Lyla are at the clubhouse.”

“Somehow?”Archer shakes his head.“I bet my mother taps into the security feed of the clubhouse and has facial recognition software set to alert her whenever people of her interest walk through the fucking door.”

The old ladies all bite their lips to prevent laughing.I don’t have their restraint and simply bark out a laugh.Archer glares at me, but it lasts a fragment of a second and then he’s laughing and shaking his head as well.

CHAPTER NINE

–LYLA –

Kneading my hair dry with a towel, I step out of the bathroom and into Pax’s room.Pax is in bed, back to the headboard, and his attention is locked on the laptop on his lap.I walk back into the bathroom to get rid of the towel and then grab my brush from my bag.

“Any news?”I ask while brushing my hair.

“Nah, I was just reading all the stuff Bee found out.I also glanced over the blueprints of the hotel.Details of renovations aren’t mentioned anywhere. There’s nothing that would explain the wall being moved forward, replaced, thickened, or whatever.”

“We’ll find out soon enough.”I lift the covers and slide into the bed next to him.

Pax closes the laptop and places it on the bedside table. With a deep sigh he pulls me closer and buries his head into the crook of my neck to breathe me in.I snuggle closer and feel the tightness in my muscles leave my body.

I can’t remember having a safe place the way Pax’s arms feel wrapped around me.The shit with my neighbor, my brother getting shot, having everyone interfere with my life...the loss of control feels like my life was slipping out of my hands.

Finding your place in this fucked-up world sure feels like dropping a load off our shoulders. At least, for me it does with Pax as my partner in crime.Such a nice way to put it since we’ve been working on a crime case.

I brush my lips against his naked chest. His fresh scent enters my nose. The soap he used in the shower, spicy with a hint of pine.A scent of male roughness is added to the mix and that’s all Pax, making my heart jump inside my chest.

The tips of my fingers glide down his chest to find the band of his boxers.Dipping inside I feel his breath catch.Feeling bold, I reach inside and palm his growing length.I feel the need to have him in my mouth and move down his body.

Pax groans.“You should get some sleep.”
