Behind us we hear the others going door to door. Each team has three people. One opens the door, three go in, one goes out while the other two stay. With the shuffling of feet and the doors we’re hoping to drive Della out of her hiding space.Hopefully she switches rooms and enters one where two bikers will hold her at gunpoint.
Pax meets my gaze. He’s standing behind Macsen who will enter the room first after I’ve opened the door.We each have our role and it’s me who has to follow behind them and then leave them inside.
My heart is racing, adrenaline is pumping through my veins.I’ve done lots of stuff for Areion Fury, even if I never was a part of the club.My family each have their spot, but I didn’t when I grew up.Hell, Heath almost chewed my head off a few months ago because I talked to a woman who was related to someone who wanted to go to war with Areion Fury.
I was only having an innocent conversation to gather some information for fuck’s sake. It’s not that I hate my family, or the brotherhood I grew up in.I now understand the full difference of MCs, and the fact that I’m now an old lady.
Not only am I part of Broken Deeds in a different setting as I was growing up as a kid of one of the members of Areion Fury.My old man gives me privileges and sees me as his equal. The way we worked on solving the serial killer case, and right now checking the rooms shows everything about the value he sees in me.
I’m very well aware of the danger, don’t get me wrong, but there’s a huge damn difference in my mind. While I was pissed at Heath for chewing my head off, now?I have to agree with him because I wouldn’t want my daughter sticking her nose into club business.I didn’t have the okay from Heath and Hayden, and didn’t have backup.
Stupid.I was lucky nothing happened.
Time for the here and now...hoping we’ll all be lucky today as well.Swallowing hard, I nod in the direction of Pax and Macsen. They’re both ready to slip inside the room.I make as much noise as normal.
Gun pointing forward I yell, “Della Hallett, show yourself.Slowly or I will shoot you.”
Crickets.
Silence is all the room is filled with.I walk over to a little desk in the corner and start to slam the drawers. From the corner of my eye, I notice Pax and Macsen enter the room without noise.
Leaving two people in the room might be stupid, knowing she has cameras everywhere.Though, Bee and Ganza managed to tap into the feed of the hotel security. There are no other cameras because they saw the room I booked on the feed as well. The parking lot has video and sound as well.
Only the first row of hotel rooms all have video and sound.Creepy.I’ll never take privacy in a hotel room for granted again.Damn.My mother was right to live in a house that’s basically a safe room.
I didn’t and the first home I lived in by myself was breached by a fucked-up neighbor.People are weird and twisted. My eye catches a transparent tube when I’m about to slam the drawer shut.Taking it out, I pop the cap and glance inside.
“Fuck.”I let one of the buttons slide out onto my palm while I mutter mostly to myself, “Archer should see this.”
A soft sound comes from somewhere across the room.Maybe the corner or behind the wall?I’m not sure.I meet Pax’s gaze and my old man jerks his chin, indicating I should leave.I stomp in the direction of the door and let it fall shut behind me.
It feels as if I’m leaving my heart behind.I can hardly breathe when I try to listen and picture what goes on inside the room.Down the hall are voices of other teams scanning rooms.I pull my phone out, ready to call Archer if necessary.
Panic hits me when there’s a loud crashing noise followed by gunshots. There’s no need to call Archer because others are running into the hallway in my direction.I try to open the door, but it’s blocked. There are only a few inches of movement and not enough to glance into the room.
The dust flowing through the air, though?I think the ceiling collapsed. It’s the only explanation why the door is stuck.
“Pax,” I bellow.
Nothing.
“Move, let me try,” Veloz rumbles.
Thorsten is right behind him.“Together, come on.”
I step aside and watch how both men slam their shoulder against the door. There’s minimum movement and I try to remember the room.Is there a window? Can we enter the room from the outside?
The panic inside me skyrockets while Thorsten and Veloz finally stumble into the room.Whatever was holding the door gave way, but the second they step inside is when another loud crashing sound covers everything in dust.
“What the fuck happened?”Archer grunts from behind me.
I move forward, gun still in my hand when I try to see through the dust and rubble. The ceiling partly came down and it looks like the wall collapsed with it.Someone is crawling out from under a large chunk of drywall.Blood is dripping down one leg, and it’s then I realize it’s pants neither Macsen or Pax were wearing.
“Move real slow and show your damn hands,” I snap.
Veloz and Thorsten are flanking me as Archer steps into the room. There are now four guns aimed at Della’s head. She doesn’t even seem to care because she fucking smiles.
“Only interested in my hands?”Della taunts.“One might think all these actions and manpower are for more than just showing you my hands.”
